i'm out of shape but i think i'm going to make a real effort to get in "great shape" and stay that way. i am hoping that getting all of these nice outdoor tools will encourage me to spend a lot more time outdoors.

Well, I'm in the military, so physical fitness is an important factor. I'm up to go to work at 5, and doing at least an hour work out everyday.

I'm currently working to pass my annual BFT (Basic Fitness Test), as well a prepping for an Iron man event that takes place between the military and the prison guards here in Kingston.

So, here's a review of my training schedule:

Monday - Easy warm up to the week; start with 50 push ups and sit ups, then go for a light 6 km run to the post office, which is at the top of a steep hill, and then finish with another 50 push ups and sit ups

Tuesday - 8 km march, with full fighting order and rucksack, followed by a 100 meter fireman carry of someone of equivalent weight with full fighting order worn by both, then a trench dig, which must be completed in under 6 minutes.

Wednesday - Hill training and upper body; For 30 minutes, we run up and down a three step hill, attempting to make as many circuits as possible in the time limit. Then, we head inside to the weight room, and do 30 minutes of scheduled free weights to work our upper torso. Before we leave, each of us does 100 medicine ball situps. Basically, you're doing situps and your partner tosses the medicine ball to you as you decend. As you come up, you toss the medicine ball back. Trust me, you feel it after the first 20!

Thursday - Same as tuesday, but now it's 11 km, and 50 push ups and situps are thrown in before and after the march.

Friday - 18 km run, with 75 pushups and situps, and at least 10 chin ups, before and after the run.

That's my schedule as it stands right now, omitting my personal workouts on weekends.

I'm 34, and believe me, sometimes I wish I were dead after doing this; it would hurt less.

The thing I find sad is how many of the young guys and gals (18 to 25) are falling out at the very beginning of the week, while us slightly older guys keep on going. Really saddens me to see how out of shape the next generation really is.

There's always one...
Swing a machete up to your nads for 10 hours or more a day in the swamp for weeks on end and then ask this... that WAKI would be useless in the swamp... been there..done it..more than once...
lift all you want... I've left them all in the mud...there will be more...

tyger i know you pain, werstleing prathice is tough stuff, but i loved it, but unfortunatly i had to quit from the combonation of hurting my knee really badly and when i meen it hurt if i tried running on it,, it would give out on me in 10 sec. and the fact that my coach wanted me to drop 35lbs. which i didnt want to do and my mom wouldnt let me do b/c i use to wrestle at 103 and over the summer my long awaited growths sput kiked in about 2 years late and then weighed 135lbs. which still isnt much, but by the time sphmore year came around and had to tell him i quit, and man he wasnt happy he gave me a long speech about how i was letting the team down and he expected much more form me. But if i would have stunted my growth at 103 lbs. and really didnt want that, expesolly b/c im planning on going into the millatry in 2 years.
