Yes Gambit, we usually do all of our training here at my place, but sometimes we do the swimming at the lake, or the YMCA because their pool is much bigger.

First-class advice Jimmie. I personally prefer real world training as well. When training I think people get too comfortable with the ideal setting of a gym. In a serious scenario one will more than likely encounter a myriad of obstacles that cannot be trained for in that ideal setting. Another thing is feet. Feet, legs, arms and the muscles that don't get exercised by carrying additional weight. In real life you WILL be carrying weight. How many in a gym are wearing a back pack while training? It doesn't make sense to most there because all they care about is how their body LOOKS. What you should be worried about is how your body FEELS. Maximize your training so that you can endure the hardship that comes with real, dire situations.
As for the food, also excellent advice. I have some friends who are doctor's and during med school they had to spend the summers dissecting bodies for parts. They would call me with these gruesome stories and an emphasis on diet. If you can see the difference between healthy organs and the not so healthy ones, believe me, you WILL change your diet.

F-L-E-X-I-B-I-L-I-T-Y is the key to long life and a healthy back, I work out about 4 times a week if not 5 (strength and core) . I need to focus on flexibility as this is my weakist area by far. In the past when I have focused on this area (bikram yoga), I noticed a huge difference in my body. Just traveling too much to do such excercises. Need to get back to it.

I agree about the flexibility. It's a big part of what I do, and yoga actually seems to help the most. For a good example of flexibility you should check out Eddie Bravo on youtube demoing the rubber guard. There's one vid of him just stretching out his knees/hips. It's freaking crazy!

I swim in the lake it's a pretty good haul. Swimming in open water where you can't touch bottom forces you to stay in constant motion definitely creates a real life scenario and is just a great way to change things up
