I got a call this week from a gun club member asking if I would be a coach/spotter for the NRA Women On Target program at our range today. I said I would. I had no idea the program was so big and intense. I was thinking maybe four or five women on the pistol range for an hour or so. The ladies had three hours of classroom instruction. Then after a brief lunch, provided by the club, they got to fire 20 rds of pistol and rifle, and some shotgun shooting, too. They needed a coach for each shooter, and there were about thirty ladies there learning to shoot. It was hot, about 98F. Some had never even held a gun until today and many were over 60 years old. It was a hoot. I coached at the rifle range. When my ladies would hit the metal animals and send them flying at the 40m berm, they just loved it. We didn't finish at the range until 4 pm. Four hours of shooting. The ladies all seemed to love it, in spite of the heat. I think this is a great program. BTW, most of the coaches were old farts like me.

Even as hot as it was, the ladies wanted to keep on shooting until we ran out of ammo. It's funny, one day I'm teaching my yoots to shoot and another day teaching the ladies. I love teaching women how to shoot, at first they're like "Sounds dangerous" and then they won't give up the AR. Ammo ain't cheap! At least it opens their eyes to the fact that guns are not the enemy. Man, Georgia just keeps getting better and better. Don't ever change down there!

That's awesome! Great job Horn Dog! We as men and shooters need to introduce more women into our types of activities; shooting, hunting, knives, cars etc. I think for far to long, men have excluded women because of our machoness, but in today's times we need all the support we can get if we want to save out rights and hobbies. So, I encourage all men to invite any woman; wife, girlfriend, daughter, grand daughter, neighbor or even someone that might be anti-gun, next time they go shooting. Show them that there's nothing to fear and dispell the lies that come from the other side. Plus, they just might have fun too! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Great job there HD, I bet it was fun. I have worked with some jr. shooters in the past and I loved every minute of it. The look on the first time shooters faces when they hit their target is priceless.
