Yeah before ya all say it I'm often confused !!!!!

I was under the wrong impression that we could post about other brands of knives on the survival forum and after posting about my new last resort knife I found out I was wrong ! Now to be fair Scrapyard offers no such type of knife as the one I posted and as such could not lose sales by me posting such a product!
I did however accept this ruling and replied to the moderator saying I would not break these rules again !!!!

So tonight I click on the main forum and onto a thread about neck knives and everyone is talking about other brands....what gives ??????

At this moment in time I feel like kicking this forum to the side and sticking with the other ones where I can post what I want to post but I have met some great people on here and so am reluctant to leave without having my say !

I understand your comment, pitman. I was one of those that commented in that thread. I was very unconfortable in so doing, but I had received a reprimand for not being a welcoming dog to people who ask questions without understanding the guidelines. I am just leaving it up to the moderators to decide if they want to remove those conversations, or get them back on track. I am sorry if anything that I said offended you within the context of the forum. I was just trying to be helpful to the new individual.

I have removed my suggestion to the newcomer to the forum, since it did not focus upon SYK products.

yeah it's weird, I just figure any thread I start about some other knife brand, I will compare to a SY to make it relevant.

Sometimes I post on the Outdoor forum and don't even show a knife. But you can be sure that my trusty Rat Trap is always with me. I try to keep my posts about knives at least Busse-made if not Scrap Yard related. Most of us use and buy knives from other makers. Blade Forums is always there for reviews about those knives. And comparisons with Scrappers are allowed. But a straight up review about a knife not made by Busse is not appropriate here. We have been permitted to talk about folders on the folder thread, and that seems pretty tolerant to me.

So am I right in thinking that I can compare a Scrapyard knife with a similar knife from another maker even if the Scrapyard knife comes out poorly by comparison ? This seems even worse than just talking about another brand of knife ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I understand where the mods have to keep the rules. I once asked about a knife maker here in OK because I was wanting to find some info out--I mean, there would have been a comparison if I did obtain on of his blades. To top it off I ended up having one of his granddaughters in my class so I got it taken care of. Anyway, I see where you are coming from. I hope you stay around as I love reading about your adventures and blades.

By allowing comparisons, then they do run the risk of their knife coming
out second best. In fact, I've seen a couple of threads where that did
happen.

I actually have more respect for the company when that happens. It shows me
two things about them. First, that they value the people who buy their knives
and second, that they are honest about the claims that they make for their
products.

what about threads in the OUTDOORS side of things, say like my hiking and picture thread....?

Guys, I think you are over-thinking this....


There's a big difference between "hey, I went hiking today and by the way I brought along my swiss army knife" and "hey, this is my brand new knife, that isn't in any way affiliated with the Busse family blades!"

One is an entire thread that revolves solely around a non-Busse blade, and the other is a non-Busse blade showing up as an afterthought in a real-life activity. I see no problem with the mods making a distinction between these two scenarios.
