Sounds like a lot of hot Nitrogen to me. Actually, nitrogen is one of the secret ingredients and adds to the corrosion resistance of Infi. True 'dat!

I wouldn't say this is a dog fight, just a few folks exchanging their opinions in a friendly way, I don't see anyone getting worked up over the conversation. Relax! I'm just having a little fun. I know you were

I am happy with SR-77 or SR-101.
If you are a friend of the yard, you are a friend of mine.

SR-101 is Swamp Rat Knife Company steel.
SR-77 is Scrap Yard Knife Company steel.
INFI is Busse Combat Knife Company steel.
I'm not sure why so many Dogs are jumping ship from SR-77. It has always been good enough for any blade ever made by The Yard. The recent fervor over Swamp Rats steel making a "sneak" appearance in The Yard is expected. After the spate of 154CM Stainless Steel which raised the bar for Scrap Yard by being more flexible in the steel choices it makes. The recent SR-101 craze is just not warranted.
Swamp Rat steel is no better than Scrap Yard steel when they are used by human beings. The load of SR-77 I own has always been over the top in what my extreme needs were. It has always performed flawlessly. The sharpening ability of SR-77 is no harder or easier for me than SR-101. They are both heat treated with the same specs that Busse uses to overcook INFI.
Days not hours of heat treat make all of their steel hard to sharpen compared to others.
To jump ship and raise a SR-101 flag in my opinion is just not warranted. The Yard introduced SR-77 into the world and took it and ALL of us by storm. For us to turn our backs and jump ship is NOT what a Dog does. A Dog stands by its master through thick and thin. Supporting him in any decision he makes. And loving him for it.
When Dan decides to play with optional steel grades it is for the real reason he started his company. It is called SCRAP Yard. SCRAP being the key word. He dumpster dives and takes what the others don't or can't use. He started his knife empire in SR-77 and made it into what it is now. A stand alone company that sells out every model ever made. Using his shock steel we rallied about screaming the virtues of the new CHEAP Uber steel.
For us to write day after day how much we prefer SR-101 over what made us buy Scrap Yard Knives in the first place sickens me.
What must Dan think when he reads those comments?
Maybe that he should make a switch and change to SR-101 and drop his line of steel?
NEVER happen. Swamp Rat makes SR-101. Scrap Yard makes SR-77.
If he were to switch why would we need The Yard?
This place would become a SWAMP.
Sorry if this hits some of my brothers in the gut but I just don't want us to keep the battle cry up for a steel that is NOT ours. If you want more SR-101 they have a separate division for that. If you need and want SR-77 you are in the right place.
Nice to have a cameo appearance, but THIS is NOT The Swamp.
Whew... end rant.
Peace. i couldnt agree more PoP. SR77 is what dan built this place on. It will always be the steel of the Yard an as tough as anything. but as much as i hate to say it, mustard man has a point in some ways... its about the company. ill be pissed as hell if Dan abandons SR77 and i honestly think he would be making a HUGE mistake in terms of cranking out cheap BOMBPROOF knives for soldiers and abusers, alike. However, ill support him regardless. i just hope like hell he uses SR77 as the main steel of the Yard. IMO, the strength and toughness of this steel is unmatched when it comes to all the others and price is thrown in there. SR77 is the perfect soldiers' steel.

I think it's a little premature to suggest that Dan will abandon SR77. It's really difficult to make better performing knives for less money than SR77 knives. On the other hand, if you really analyze it, Dan would be abandoning his own motto if he didn't feel that the increase in price for producing SR101 knives was worth it. Or to put it another way, the additional premium we're paying for SR101 is justified by the increase we're getting in performance. Otherwise I doubt Dan would be making knives out of SR101.
Anyway, as others have pointed out, Scrap Yard knives are superb regardless of the alloy Dan uses. And he's managing to keep his prices affordable. So AFAIC, it's all good! Bruce and others hit it good! And I'm sure Dan knows exactly what he is doing, if you take the Dog father for example, the choice of SR77 was a perfect fit, if you take the Muk, darned if 154 wasn't a excellent choice there, and now the S5...in SR101, and infi, what really more could ya ask for......Dan's ability to give us the most performance for the price still rings true, if he stayed with the SR77 on the S5 CG release, it'd be nothing more than a tricked out D.M., this time he gave us a blade that WILL hold its edge longer at a fantastic price, I don't think he will abandon anything, he just knows what works with each model the best.

SR101 has been popular since the beginning of the Swamp but was never an option for the Yard, and as such was never discussed. Now that we know it's an option for Scrap Yard knives you see a lot of guys excited about SR101 combined with ResC. I hope that we see a lot of SR101 in the Yard. Also until earlier this year there had been a bit of a 'Rat/SR101 drought. We're seem to be in a sort of golden age of Busskin at the moment. Lap it up and enjoy I say. SR77, SR101, INFI, 154cm, S30 ('nother folder please!!!) - it's all good and the brothers have a kncack for choosing the right material for the job. Therefore, it's all good!!!

I know that this is the Good Days for some great offerings and steel from the Yard. I have SR77, SR101, 154CM and now will be having an Infi.
Men you can't trust, women you can't trust, beasts you can't trust, but Bussekin steel you can trust

I truly think BOTH models of the S5s will be grail knives . One great knife- two great metals. Good on ya Dan
