<snip> But give me a bigger knife or machete any day. It's a lot easier. I am going to get one of those Condor machetes and give them a shot...they look good....I like mine a might longer than you though... Doc

I chose 6" blade 5" handle, but really I prefer 7" blades. It's the ideal size for being able to chop and do detail work IMO. .25" minimum thickness.

For EDC , my DM is ALWAYS with me , but if I'm in the weeds the SoD will be there. As we say in the ARMY...A Big knife can do most things alittle knife can do .. but not the other way around. I've always believed in carrying 3 blade in most "survival" situations" anyway. It's like a ToolBox...dig it

just to make Pitdog laugh, my ideal survival "knife" is a Husqvarna 3120XP with a 34" handmade Cannon bar and .404 chisel tooth skip chain, and a custom "Walkerized" muffler and porting job on it.

Silver Bullets, I live that handle on the first knife in your post. The Yellow Black looks great!
Hey Mod, how come I've been shorted 2 post counts? Am I doing something wrong?

Off the choices I went for a 5x5 blade...my Hattori or my RMD. My ideal survival knife though is my SAK...it is going to be with me and I use it much more than any fixed blade or locking folder. ![[Linked Image from i343.photobucket.com]](http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o445/SteelFan-Infi/100_0021-1.jpg) Like others have said I would be "set" with a SAK and a machete sized knife... this I would carry either in or on my rucksack.

I would have to go with this: ![[Linked Image from i628.photobucket.com]](http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu4/MAJORSDAD13/Knives/IMG_0353-2.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i628.photobucket.com]](http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu4/MAJORSDAD13/Knives/IMG_0352-1.jpg) But I'll wait until I get my S5CG, and then see if I still feel the same.

After giving this a bit more thought....and trying for a better compromise...I think my SAK teamed up with my SFNO LE is likely to be a better choice. The chopping ability of the SFNO or say a Camp Tramp without the extra weight of a FSH/NMSFNO/CW/RW/ would probably be a better "combo" for carrying and versatile use. ![[Linked Image from i343.photobucket.com]](http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o445/SteelFan-Infi/100_0472.jpg)

I already answered but I wanted to get in on the "what a survival knife should do" part. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
A survival knife is just that, a single knife that you have with you that helps you to survive by performing whatever tasks you need it to perform while stuck in the situation you are in. The environment could be forest, jungle, desert, wilderness, urban or any other. The tasks you would need to perform include but aren't limited to chopping wood, making fires, digging, prying, killing and cleaning food, self-defense, cutting vines and other materials for building shelter, hammering, carving to make utensils and weapons and much much more.
Now, when I think of all of these things and try to come up with a single knife and size that I would prefer, it would have to be something with a large enough blade to chop well, but small enough to do some of the more intricate work and tough enough to pry and hammer without breaking - all while being light enough to carry with me at all times.
I like 6"/5" - Of the knives I own I would say my Camp Tramp, bravo-1, or something similar. I think the S5 might even make a good one. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Ultimately, I would like to have a folder with me as well for the smaller jobs - and I probably would since I carry one every day.
