The "blade trinity" is what I live by. My smaller fixed blade , my SoD sized all rounder , and a Longer bushcutter is alway deployed when going "outfield".

The S5CG seems like it would be better off in the bush than the Regulator IMO.
The Regulator seems more combat/utility like the USMC bowies or SEAL blades and not so much a camp/outback survival blade.
It could make for a nice little VS. thread in the future.

Well Bruce...Strange of you to ask if the "Regulator" would replace my SoD...No. IMO , the REG maybe TOO much..in that the design is for massive chopping power and limited General purpose use. For my taste , a wider , heavy tip and wider blade would be more...pleasent to USE. The handle/grip looks extremely bulky...but comfortable for smashing...but rubber guards aren't for me. Being a true bowie , the tip is TOO slender for forward/tip mass strikes...although it appears it WOULD penetrate with that mass. If the Scrapper5 was say..7in and .250+....the SoD would then have something to fear. We all have our needs , favorites ,wants and certain qualities for different purposes in the blades we choose...its a toolbox. Dan really has done great things as far as designing special blades for us all...and I'm sure many more will follow. I have choosen the DMcg , SoD and the DF for my needs at this time. They maybe old standard classics by Designs we see coming out today...but their the BEST quality materials available , tested and tried and still I can't find a better knife for the money..ANYWHERE. My knives save lives..or takes them , but whatever their called to do....they do it well....and I come home to my kids..who think DaD saved the day.

The regulator is certainly NOT designed primarily for chopping power. It's capable of chopping but the weight distribution is not at all what you want on a chopper.

Being a Bowie design...and .330 thick, it will penetrate and chop well...for its size. It wouldn't be my 1st choice of a fighter or a chopper. the main and only attraction for me is its .330 thickness... Although thinner blades cut better , I know of .185 blades snap in half when put to prying and digging use. The purpose of the Regulator is mostly a fighter I believe...I'm just not a clip tip lover. Drop point , spear point , tanto points are more to my liking. Tip breakage may not happen with the Regulator....but I'll pass for another point. .250 is generally where I can trust a blade laterally...depending on Rc and steel type...also on the length of blade.
