Well, my Friday night wasn't quite as exciting as yours. You did a great job in handling this situation. I understand how you feel about being angry and frustrated with the suspect and the situation, and how you start thinking of the, what ifs afterward, but trust me and be confident knowing you dealt with everything beautifully! Reading your story takes me back to a slightly different situation I was in 10 years ago, and it brought back a lot of memories and feelings that I had at that time. If you're interested in hearing my story, please PM me. I don't want to take over your thread. Again, great job Andy!

Andy, that is an amazing story! Thanks for sharing it with us. So glad that you were prepared and that it all turned out well.

Yeah, I used to didn’t like the idea of a safe, as it would slow down my access to them

I have my loaded pistol in one of those quick release combination safes. It is fast to open as you put in a five digit code on the top (by pressing one of four buttons recessed in a hand shaped pattern) and the door pops open and a light comes on inside. It is plugged in and has a battery backup. Safe, fast, & handy.

Wow, glad you and your family are ok. Talk about being prepared, that burglar didn't know what was coming! You did an awesome job Andy, I hope I can show as much restraint if confronted with a similar situation.

Well done Andy, and I'm glad that you and your folks are OK! You showed remarkable restraint in handling the situation, and did NOT provide the idiot's lawyer with something to use as a defense or to sue you with.

You should send your story into the NRA; they most likely would put it in their "Armed Citizen" article in their magazines. It REALLY illustrates the importance of the 2nd Amendment, as well as how to handle a similar situation. They can also help with other important information and suggestions.

Again, well done!!! Tom

I hate thieves. Too bad he isn't dead.

I was going to post this exact thing.

Andy, I'm glad everybody's okay.

edited for clarification: that doesn't mean "too bad you didn't shoot him." That means "too bad he he hasn't gotten himself killed yet."

I tend to be a pretty hard guy sometimes, but I wouldn't wish having to shoot someone on any of you dogs. You did the right thing.

Nice job Andy! Glad everyone is ok and that sucks with all the damage he did. $200-300 in damage for $10 in groceries? what a drag...

Yeah. At least our insurance should cover it.

Luckily for him, I’m fairly forgiving. I know people make mistakes; and lots of people do stupid things they regret later. I’ve read several stories of homeowners who shot someone, and for one reason or another later turned out to be charged with murder. So, I didn’t want to put myself in a position that could drastically change my life. I didn’t want to have to take someone’s life over damage/theft when he presently wasn’t a physical threat.

Yeah, I’ve looked at those before, but they’re pretty expensive. I always thought for the price, I could buy another gun! I’ve also seen the biometric ones that scan your fingerprint so you don’t have to remember a combo in a stressed situation.

I’d thought of that, I was too tired last night (uh, early this morning) but I sent it in today.
