I understand how you feel about being angry and frustrated with the suspect and the situation, and how you start thinking of the, what ifs afterward, but trust me and be confident knowing you dealt with everything beautifully! I have my loaded pistol in one of those quick release combination safes. It is fast to open as you put in a five digit code on the top (by pressing one of four buttons recessed in a hand shaped pattern) and the door pops open and a light comes on inside. You should send your story into the NRA; they most likely would put it in their "Armed Citizen" article in their magazines. It REALLY illustrates the importance of the 2nd Amendment, as well as how to handle a similar situation. They can also help with other important information and suggestions.

I tend to be a pretty hard guy sometimes, but I wouldn't wish having to shoot someone on any of you dogs. You did the right thing.

Luckily for him, I’m fairly forgiving. I know people make mistakes; and lots of people do stupid things they regret later. I’ve read several stories of homeowners who shot someone, and for one reason or another later turned out to be charged with murder. So, I didn’t want to put myself in a position that could drastically change my life. I didn’t want to have to take someone’s life over damage/theft when he presently wasn’t a physical threat.

Yeah, I’ve looked at those before, but they’re pretty expensive.
