Thanks for the input guys. I have been wearing my 8" redwing work boots the last few times I went out but really should get something dedicated.
I will look into the brands you guys mentioned. Unfortunately they put all the good outdoor stores right downtown a place were I never go.

This thread has got me thinking about trading in my GI Issue boots. You mean your feet are supposed to be comfortable when hiking???? Ha, I used to say that with work boots until I started spending the money on a good pair.

I was planing on making a thread like this. I go hiking a LOT so I invested some in mine they are: http://www.shoebuy.com/asolo-fsn-95-gtx/47352 Asolo FSN 95 GTX I love them a lot. I go on a 5-10 mile hike every weekend with my family and wearing these its like walking on clouds. But before you buy any hiking boots be sure you try them on first and walk around a bit in them around the store. Awesome! I just bought a pair. They're in the mail.

The sole on those fugitives felt incredibly stiff for a hiking boot to me.

I have some Helly Hanson high-tops that I love but they aren't making them anymore. I have hiked many miles with these hiking shoes through Yellowstone, Tetons, Zion, Bryce and many other places and haven't had a single issue. They are comfortable and keep my feet dry. Not sure why they have quit making them...They were a little pricey so maybe they didn't sell many...?

Vasque Sundower series is really popular (good reviews) and you can get deals if your lucky.
Vasque are made by RedWing.... I have worn Redwing boots for many years....good boots....my current hikers are Montrail (not a RedWing product) ...they are okay... the most important thing is comfort...buy no boot online unless you are an easy fit... me... I have duck feet, and I have to be fitted.....RedWing shoes stores do that better than ANY I have ever been to....but whatever you get... the "break-in" should be minimal, if any...Every great boot I have ever bought fit like a glove from start to finish....I have "broken-in" all the rest....your mileage may vary.... Doc Me, too. RedWings all the way! They always have the right size, and they're well made and comfortable.

Converse 8895 soft toe from LA Police Gear is ALL I ever wear. Perfect fit and unbeatable tread grip. The pair I have on now are over a year and a half old and show no signs of ever giving out. They also come with removable insoles that are virtually identical to what most chiropractors tell you to buy for proper support. Totally worth twice what they sell for. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Sierra Trading Post has pissed me off.
I ordered my new boots last week. I was all excited about getting my new Asolos so I could go hiking again. I called them today to check on my order. I was told that thee was a discrepancy with the billing address and that my order was on hold. My mistake. Then I was told that they had sent me two emails concerning the hold on my order over the last week. I did not receive these emails. I confirmed my email address to be sure the emails had been directed correctly. I was told they had the correct address. That's kind of strange, since I received two flyers from Sierra during the same amount of time. I was told that the problem must have been on my end and that my email server must have magically denied emails only from Sierra Trading Company and only on the specific days on which these notices of the hold on my order had been sent.
If I had received notification I could have used one of the 30% off flyers I got this week. Instead, the boots I ordered last week won't even ship out until next Monday because their warehouse is closed on Saturdays. I had to add an extra $10 for expedited shipping just so I could be sure it wouldn't take more than 2 weeks to get my goodies. My time is very valuable to me. I have an erratic schedule and I have to take advantage of the opportunities to be outdoors when they present themselves to me. Because of this I will have to burn an entire week that I could have been hiking and having fun. I generally have had better service from random people on Ebay that don't even have a company's reputation to uphold.

I have these, they are great. Felt a bit like Frankenstien at first but that was just cause I am use to other footwear. http://www.vasque.com/products/m-zephyr-ii.cfm
