Shotgun first. I suggest the Remington 870 Express Magnum. Pump, 12 gauge. You'll love it, and should be able to find one for about $300. My handgun is a H&K USP 9mm full size. I could have gotten a Glock and saved some dough, but I got mine new for $600 so I can't complain. I love that gun, it's wicked.
