you'd be surprised how much details can change by flattering the music. the high hat in a mp3 is not the same as in a wave file. i bring everything to itunes as a wave file. it's bigger but all of the details are there.

mp3's a compressed files meaning that the conversion chops off numbers. they compare it to wave or cd quality but it is far from it.

why not use flac or alac instead of wav? i have some lossless music but the sansa won't read apple lossless, so i may reincode in 320.

hmm. think i'll get started on that now. my CD's are right here.

m22, no camera right now. my gf took it with her for the trip, but I'll have some pics early next week.

alright, I'm going to watch a movie ('snatch' or 'lock, stock and two smoking barrels') and hit the sack.

those are compressed formats. they call them "lossless" because it's done digitally but if you remove a one or a zero from the file then you have loss something. they basically try to fit the same data into a smaller space by removing bits of data in between. but that is detail. even cd's or direct wave recording lose something in the conversion to digital. i have a couple of 1-bit recorders that i use. these are about as loseless as you can get any recording right now.

yeah, i took CS110. anything in 1's and 0's is lossy. analog is the true sound, but it degrades with age and use.

thinking about a turntable but i don't wanna buy all that vinyl. maybe a SACD player.

check out 1-bit recorders...

but with bandwidths increasing and solid state drives gaining size and going down in price im pretty sure anything with moving parts will be obsolete within a few years. they are working on newer higher quality formats nonstop. i would hate to invest in anything that can't play these files or be upgraded. kinda why i would never buy a mp3 player that only playes mp3. i have too much crap sitting up already.

good example is aflac. sony's attempt at cornering the download market with a proprietary formats. if it doesn't make them money they will cut and run.

atrac is what i meant... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

you see how much i paid attention to that stuff. remember mini discs? i still have a couple of those around somewhere. they spend a lot of money trying to lock consumers into a format that they can control. license the technology out to the competition and keep everybody under a thumb for years.

apple managed to do a pretty good job of it with itunes and the ipod though. just have to wonder what's next with them. my money is on something big with the itunes store.
