The M9 has a thin point and that part is also tempered hard, so too much lateral force on it would snap it.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I really didn't put too much force behind it.. I was digging on a 2x6 and it just snapped. My heart fell into my stomach..

The tip on the M9LE is VERY thin compared to any of my other big knives. Sorry it broke, that must have felt awful. Send it in to Eric and he will fix you up and send you another one that you can beat on. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

sucks man but you should be good. wonder if it was a flaw in the blade though? as thin as my tip gets i wouldn't expect to break it off just screwing around.

Won't know until I get it but the Regulator looks to have a narrower tip and made from the same differentially treated SR101 as the M9. One of "tests" I want to put it through is tip work. So hopefully it will stand up better than your M9 did. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />
