Some people are just afraid of sharp knives because they don't know how to safely use them. My daughter let a young man borrow her Swiss Army knife at work and when he cut himself he screamed at her saying, "You didn't tell me it was sharp!" Bonnie cooly let him know that all her knives were sharp.
That's crazy talk! Next you'll be claiming that rocks are heavy and water is wet!
Today I loaned my knife to a woman that was out fishing, and her first comment was "It's sharp!". I don't bother to keep mine at more than paper-shearing, so it's not
really sharp as this forum would understand it, but I guess the general populace has pretty strange notions of what sharpness is. Same story with my father and his funny little pocket chisel. Loaned it to somebody, "It's sharp!". Even basic sharpening is nearly a lost art it seems.

It drives me NUTS to see people cutting vegetables by putting the knife on one side, their thumb on the other side, and squeezing. If someone tried to do that with one of my knives, they'd lose a finger - and I suck at sharpening.
Actually I do that for potatoes. And I'm [censored] fast at it. Try not to lose your sanity. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
