A bit belated but I just got word from Eric and I'm down for a Waki. Finally. You bastards and your Waki pics. Dang you. Thank you. It was the Zombie prep kits that sold me.

Tripton, if you hurry you can get your JYD # to match your INFI. It's been done before. Just ask MM. Almost 3k posts. I wonder what your students would say.

You know, they don't even give the steel on ice axes - the most descriptive I've ever seen in the ads is "stainless steel" or "carbon steel" - sometimes describing the exact same axe . I think they are usually drop forged, but that's about all I know about how they are made.
I doubt they would do much in terms of edge retention if you tried to really sharpen them up, but then again, they can bite several inches deep in extremely hard ice, so I don't think zombie brains would pose much of a challenge

I wonder what your students would say. Luckily, at the moment I don't have any students of my own - I help out covering lectures for others on occasion, but my primary responsibility is research and I don't have to take full responsibility for an entire class for at least two more years. Amusingly, the fact that I'm always working on research is exactly why I'm on knife forums so often - my experiments generally take six hours at a time, and I usually run two per day, sometimes three. That means I've got twelve hours of sitting around babysitting equipment, with just enough attention being paid to the equipment that it distracts me if I have to get any other serious work done.... Now making short posts on the internet? That's just about the perfect amount of ADD to fit in with my experimental schedule. I end up reading a lot of journal articles in between checking forums.

I like that they say recreational. It'd be really cool if they were glow in the dark. Hey, that's actually possible now with paint. Hmmm...
