I don't really understand why used Busse family knives lose value so much. The thing is guaranteed forever to anybody who happens to own it, so it's not like you're losing "lifetime" out of the steel.

My only theory is that far more people just like to look at them instead of use them. :|

I don't think they lose any value based off their facotry selling price. It brings down the secondary markets inflated price. If there is a used Busse, Scrap or Rat below the factory cost let me know...everytime...really.

Ya, what blade? Get a Badlands pack when you're there.

I've definitely bought some bussekin below original retail, and even more of them if you factor in the value of included sheaths. There are deals to be had on users if you troll the exchange enough (and are willing to try out some of the more common or less popular designs)

Edit for a shameless plug: As an example, my swamp rat mini mojo is listed for $230 shipped (which is what I paid for it). It originally retailed for $200, and I'm including a Buy Brown sheath valued at $50. So, I'm taking a $15 hit on the shipping already, and it's really $250 or so worth of knife at original retail prices.

It's also a less popular design, which, much like the M6, is too bulky for the length, and way too handle heavy, so it's sat unsold on the exchange for weeks now. I'm not really willing to take any more of a loss on it, so I expect it will probably end up not getting sold. I might end up modding it, pulling the handles and stripping it, maybe bead blasting it, or skeletonizing the tang for better balance.

Speaking of handle retention pins, how exactly do you take them out?

JYD #84 This is my rifle, and that is my SHTF Busse knife.

In my case, I would drill out the hollow flared tubes. I've seen some flat pins that were threaded, where the maker screws them tight, then grinds away the screwdriver bit portion so they blend into the handle and are smooth.

IF I did this mod, I would probably re-attach my scales with slotted bolts, rather than using the flared tubes.

How handle heavy is "too" handle heavy?

My everyday knife, a non-Busse knife which I suspect I am now forbidden to name, has a point of balance between the index and middle fingers when held. It feels very agile for ordinary knife type work. It's awkward to chop with it sure, you kind of have to use a three-finger grip around the end of the handle, but it'll do it. Or just baton it which takes a little more time but offers superior accuracy and neatness.
