I didn't realize, until after my bad break up with L., that she is alcoholic. (Since I don't drink at all, ever, I was oblivious, clueless to the signs.)

I think that, in some ways, her alcoholism is involved with the way things went down with us.

I do want to state that I am not necessarily against alcohol. I have had my fair share in the past and on rare occasions will enjoy it myself. The difference with the people we are trying to help is that ALL their money goes to it. From the second they wake up till they go to bed. Without exaggeration.

I will never drink in front of them even if they are drinking.

An addiction of any kind will tear apart a relationship.

I have seen a lot of guys at work also get sober and it has been encouraging.

Step by step, it seems to be going good.

Yes, I understand the difference. I am not against alcohol either.

On a side note, there is also the health issues.
They have had to consult a nutritionist and have had some cooking lessons.
They seem to like it.
It's like there is an obtainable goal now and they are willing to try.
It gives me joy to see them smiling again.

I have to thank my family for that.
My parents grew up in the worst of conditions in Tijuana, BC.
I have learned the true meaning of love because of them.
So, now we do our best to help those around us.
I don't get that kind of joy anywhere else.
I hope everyone gets to know what that's like.

On another tangent, I am rekindling an old relationship and am surprised by it's effects on me.
It was one of those long distance things that created issues but after almost 2 years the feelings are still there and mutual.
We'll see what happens.
