My BladeForums membership was about to expire, so I just renewed. With all that I spend on other "stuff", it's silly to sweat the differences between whether or not to resubscribe, continue as a Basic member for $10, or go Gold for $25, but I do. I need at least a Basic membership, not because I feel a burning need to provide financial support for the forum, but because you can't search unless you have a paid membership anymore (you used to), and if/when I'm looking at the Exchange, I NEED to search.
So, the choice was between Basic (which only allows you to have 5 Private Messages, but only costs $10) and Gold (which ups your inbox size to 40 and allows selling on the Exchange). I ended up going with the $25 Gold Membership this year. I'm not sure if I'll ever post any of my knives for sale, but having an inbox that can only hold 5 messages is a drag. Also, the additional capability to sell on the Exchange costs a difference of $15 now, but would cost $25 in addition to having bought the Basic membership if I decided to buy it later.
Like I said, I know that it's probably silly to sweat the small stuff, but I'm the sort of person who stares at the ketchup in the grocery store for 5 minutes, comparing price/oz for different sizes and weighing the difference in price between brands to determine whether it's worth going with a name-brand vs a store-brand.

Hi Jim,
I usually just do my bladeforum search with google. It works .

yeah, just put "site:bladeforums.com" after whatever you're searching for. for the exchange, use "site:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=681"

You made the correct choice Jim. I started with a basic and got so frustrated over only 5 PMs allowed that I upgraded to Gold several months later - I should have started with Gold to begin with. Also, it's nice to be able to list stuff to sell if you ever want to.

Good evening dogs. Good news. My daughter Bonnie scored 85 on the AFQT and was sworn into the USAF today. She takes the language aptitude test tomorrow. It's a bear of a test, but if she passes (and I think she can) she will become an AF linguist. She has a real gift for learning laguages fast. By the time she goes to basic, she should have over 20 hrs college credit and may go in as E2. I just had to let it out. I am so proud of her. Aim high.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
