If she passes that test, I will have a party! I had to force her to finish High School. But a year of working at Captain Ds and Dairy Queen, and going to college while living on her own has given her motivation to change her direction. The Army was hot after her, but I reminded her that I lived better as an enlisted airman than I did as an Army Officer. I am hopeful.

Good evening dogs. Good news. My daughter Bonnie scored 85 on the AFQT and was sworn into the USAF today. She takes the language aptitude test tomorrow. It's a bear of a test, but if she passes (and I think she can) she will become and AF linguist. She has a real gift for learning laguages fast. By the time she goes to basic, she should have over 20 hrs college credit and may go in as E2. I just had to let it out. I am so proud of her. Aim high. Tell her congrats! Wow...85 is a great score. She could get any job she wanted practically. The military is a great path now days, especially the way the economy is. Hope she does good on the language test.

Good for you HD. And for her too. Not everybody does it the same way. I didn't.

Now just go buy all of the Rosetta Stone kits and she'll be talking to folks in every country.

Well, honestly, the Army was her original idea. Those Army recruiters can be mighty persuasive. There are some great careers and sharp soldiers in the Army. But overall, the AF has higher entry standards, and generally better living conditions. I told Bonnie to go for the AF and if that didn't work out, join the Army. Members of my family have served in every branch, some career, some not, so any military service is a Ross family tradition. Not only will she learn discipline and gain structure and organization in her life, she will help defend the greatest nation on earth. I think a few years of military service is good for nearly every able bodied young person, and good the nation. The idea that there are things greater than one's self is instilled in all those who serve. I pray for Bonnie's success on the test tomorrow, and I am proud and honored that she chose this path. Young people need a challenge, and God knows military service is one sure fire way to find out what you're made of. While I did not make the AF or Army my career, the things I learned there molded my character forever and gave me the courage and confidence to conquer whatever came up in life.

Forgive me, Dogs, for posting again so soon, but I am asking for your prayers for my daughter's success tomorrow. Passing this test will be a great thing to turn around a somewhat wayward young person who lost her mother at age 10. She has a good heart and will serve our nation well. She loves learning languages, and will make a fine AF linquist. I have seen powerful answers to prayers given for sick and other things on this forum. I figure the yard has some serious faith, so I know it can't hurt. Thanks, dogs. God bless you all.

Hey Vic, prayers are one of the few things I have an abundance of these days, so it's no problem! It's definitely an honor to hear that she is joining the ranks of some of the U.S. military's finest. Good luck to her, and you should be very proud. You are both in my prayers. God Bless!

Congratulations Vic. And congratulations to her on her 85 on the AFQT. I'll be sending smoke and prayers her way for her upcoming exam. My sister was an Army linguist and it was one of the proudest moments in my life when she graduated from that course.
