That may be for the best, although I'm sure she's disappointed and perhaps feeling some rejection. I expect that language specialists are a fairly high stress, very demanding, but probably mind-numbingly boring specialty. When I went into the Navy as a Reactor Operator/Submarine volunteer, I was all kinds of gung-ho -- long hours don't mean nuthin' to to me. However, while I'd always done very well in school, especially in math and without having to do much homework, I really struggled through Nuke school.

I made it through the training pipeline, but I was pretty marginal as a Nuke -- verbatim memorization of procedures, which was the core of that training, did not come easy for me. Once I got to a submarine, I really didn't "fit in"; it didn't help that I asked "Why?" far too often; I learned that the nail that sticks up gets hammered down, but it still didn't always keep me quiet. Also, a 3-day duty rotation of 24-on, followed by 8-on/16-off, followed by 12-on/12-off, then back to the top got old real quick. I lasted on the boat for almost three years before getting busted down and off. I did the remainder of my enlistment on a submarine tender. By the time I got out, there was very little to remember fondly about my time in the Navy.

I'm perhaps making my point in a round-about way, but where I'm working towards is that a high-profile job that's chronically short-handed won't actually live nearly as well as a recruiter makes it sound. Also, while I hear you about duty, honor, and service, I was only only able to take "You volunteered, so suck it up" for so long before having to suppress strong homicidal urges. I'd recommend picking a field that transitions well into a civilian occupation in case things don't work out (no nuclear power plant construction and operating license applications were filed in the US between 1977 and 2007, so nuclear power jobs were not in nearly such high demand as Navy recruiters claimed; somebody pretty much had to die for a job to open up). It's really hard to map out what you want to be at that age, but my recommendation is that she try to pick something that really interests her, not just what the recruiter pushes or a MOS with a prestigious sounding title. I wish you and your daughter well; it's a big decision, especially in current times.

Life is full of ups and downs. I've had many. She will too. I wish her well. Make sure she REALLY thinks out making this big a choice on option #2. She still isn't totally committed at this point. If this is a good fit, then she will do well. If it isn't, regardless of what the recruiter says, it will be a mistake. I hope she finds a great career. I'm sure she will.

Bonnie would prefer a flying job that is clearly war related. She found out in wrestling that she has a warrior spirit. She really is amazing at languages. Nobody passed today. She may take it again. She needs a minimum score of 100 out of 130 to pass. She will do fine in the AF. We knew going in that very few applicants, even those proficient in languages, pass the test. With her score of 85 on the ASVAB, she still six options, one of which she will get. At least she made it into the AF. Many don't.

[rant]

I AM GETTING REALLY DAMNED SICK AND TIRED OF BLADEFORUMS.

EVERY SINGLE NIGHT I LOG IN THERE, I HAVE PROBLEMS LOADING PAGES. IT NEVER FAILS. I CAN READ AND REPLY IN MAYBE 2 OR 3 THREADS, AND THEN I CAN'T PULL UP ANOTHER THREAD OR PAGE FOR ANOTHER 5-10 MINUTES.

IT JUST SITS THERE LOADING. AND LOADING. AND LOADING. AND LOADING. UNTIL I GET PISSED OFF AND GO TO ANOTHER WEBPAGE.

THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS! I AM GETTING VERY FED UP WITH IT. I'M A PAYING GOLD MEMBER THERE, AND I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER GIVE THEM ANOTHER DAMNED DIME OF MY MONEY IF THEY'RE NOT GOING TO USE IT TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR SITE.

HD, did you say Bonnie wrestled? Awesome.

Anybody have big plans for the weekend? The wife and I are making a little road trip up the road and meet up with Jackall in the morning. By tomorrow afternoon I will have my first piece of Infi, and a Hog. Now I have Dogs (favorite), Rats, and a Hog. Life is good!!!!!!

+1 on Bladeforums needing an upgrade. That's the only site that I go to that is perpetually slow and bogs down my computer. Not only does Bladeforums bog down but it seems to confuse my computer and I have to restart to get my web browsers going again.
