Bonnie did not pass the Defense Language Aptitude Battery. She can retest later. So she does not qualify for the Airborne Cryptologic Linguist specialty, but she does qualify for her second choice, Airborne Battle Management Systems. We will see what she gets. I'm still proud of her, and she is still in good spirits. We both appreciate the prayers of the yard. I wanted to be a helicopter pilot and wound up a tanker. I still got to blow the heck out of things with my five M-60A1 tanks and shoot a lot of ammo at taxpayer expense! Bonnie is excited about all her remaining choices, and she WILL get one of them. Thanks again for the prayers and well wishes. Second time around is often lucky for some Vic...I passed my driving license...S/F Selection...Officers Selection and my Solicitors ( your attorney )exams all on the second attempt If everything comes easy...there is no "challenge"...and nothing to shape your future character. Everything is possible if you never give up...and often with exams it is down to technique and familiarity with what you are about to face...and you can do better on a second go having learnt the "lie of the land". However...getting into the A/F is the "biggie"...changing branches later is often done... Really it is a time for celebration

I took Bonnie to lunch today, bought her some nice new clothes, and we discussed her options. Bonnie is an unusual girl. If she could, she'd be an airborne ranger, but the closest thing to actual combat jobs she can get into are in the AF, not the Army. She likes martial arts, shooting, and wilderness survival. Yet she is a petite blonde. She is taking weight training and meets the physical requirements for several flight jobs. I told her that she would have to go through SERE school in WA and water survival in FL, before she ever got to go to tech school for her desired specialty. She is determined. And she will test again for the Airborne Crypto Linguist job, but would be happy with most any flight job. Her spirits are high and she is undeterred by the setback. She said she would love the Airborne Battle Management systems apprentice job, and is going for it if she can't get the liquist job right away. I know her well. I raised her. Once she sets her mind on something, she is like a bulldog.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

HD congrats to you and your daughter. Sometimes i wish i would have been more persistant with the Air Force's recruiter. 20+ unanswered phone calls motivated me to join the Army, who interestingly enough were more than willing to reply. It didnt turn out badly and now im looking forward to college in a few months on the GI bill's dime.

Glad it didn't send her into too big a funk. She'll try harder and understand the process better next time.

It didnt turn out badly and now im looking forward to college in a few months on the GI bill's dime. Bonnie was ready to go Army for just that reason. She could not get the Air Force to return her calls. This was after she and I had gotten all her records together and filled out all the forms. I finally intervened, as fathers will do, and I got the AF recruiter up in Savannah to come down and talk to Bonnie. The local one was never available. In the local mall, only the Army is always open. They make it hard to join the AF for some reason. I was about ready to tell her to go Army instead with the slack way the local AF recruiter was running things. But the SSGT from Savannah treated us with some seriousness. Now he's glad he did, with that 85 AFQT score she got. It's amazing how much pull an old ex-AF SSgt and Army LT has. Maybe he thought I was a Colonel.

On a serious note, congratulations Vic! I am sure she will excel regardless of what trade she decides on.
