I've got a story I've been working on, it should be pretty good.

I couldn’t have been more then six or seven and there was a place close to my house that sold rockhounding supplies, its name was Ed’s house of Gems. Wow what a cool name, of course I just called it The Rock Shop.

The library was right across the street and any time my mom or dad went to the library I would make sure to ask “Um, do you think you will go by The Rock Shop too?” I would pester my parents about this and most of the time they would give in and take me by The Rock Shop.

The Rock shop had more then grinders, tumblers, and assorted gems. They had wood carvings, scales, fancy pens, and rabbit furs. It was a rabbit fur that was my first purchase from The Rock Shop, man was that cool. I was the only person I knew with a whole skinned rabbit pelt. Oh sure the other kids had lucky rabbit’s feet but I had almost a whole bunny. I still have parts of this pelt stashed away with some childhood stuffed animals. My wife is completely disgusted by it.

Besides the above mentioned goodies they had a knife display. Oh and what a display it was! But there was only one that I had my eye on. It was dark brown and lighter brown almost yellow with a brass plaque that read “OLD TIMER”. It was a folder with two blades that opened at each end. One was long and came to a point. The other shorter and a bit rounded.

Even at that young age I got paid an allowance and I was real good about saving. But a Knife how would I convince my parents I needed a knife? I wasn’t a child that would beg, plead, or demand, I was way above that. Now I don’t remember the exact specifics but I do remember coming up with some very persuasive arguments for my corner, and I did it in such a way that my folks never became annoyed.

Well one day when my dad was going to the library I asked (as I always did) “Um, do you think you will go by The Rock Shop too?” of course after some hemming and hawing dad said we could do that too.
