Speaking of price and bottom barrel... How do you guys feel about Hi Point firearms. I'm asking because they are cheap and I came across some fans of these guns. They are butt ugly and all but some of the owners are really impressed with them. Hard not to have one in a tool box from what in reading.
Ah, just noticed this post.
They are ugly. Real ugly...but that isn't the issue. The frames are made of plastic, and when I say plastic, I do not mean the same plastic as glock. I mean plastic similar to the plastic handle of a Frost knife from Cutlery Corner. The slides are some sort of pot metal, and it seems the only piece of steel on the gun is the barrel. The black coating on the slide seems to be grill paint, and they are as heavy as a Dewalt cordless drill, and the .45s are approximately the same size. They are all single stack stamped steel mags with plastic bottoms, and my 9mm jams ALL the time. One of the red dots came out of the sights while shooting the second mag.
All that, and you have to have the mag in to shoot it (I know a lot of guns have that, but I hate it).
I will say that the .45 that I shot was decently accurate for what it was and did not have any jams while I was shooting it.
So, overall, for a $130 dollar gun, I am not impressed, BUT lots of people out there swear that they have had no issues.
That is my experience though...inaccurate and unreliable, ugly and awkward, heavy and junky.
YMMV.
