Drums where just low... In most cases you are going to focus on you playing and singing more than so those tend to get mixed louder. I was once accused of mixing certain stuff louder on purpose. Afraid I was just focused on these more so I would creep them up. This is what I suspect I was hearing. Bands do it all the time. It's nitthaf the bass ayers wants to be louder he is just more focused on his part than the group. I have spent a good bit of time learning to hear the whole picture. If the picture doesn't come together for me I keep at it until it's there.

you're hitting dead center. i was aware i was doing this but it was such a pain to get the right mix that i decided my home recordings were just that. more an abstract than the final product. i had resolved that if i wanted a professional sound, i'd have to go to the professionals.

so the snare should be up front?

snares are like guns shots. When they are heard people pay attention. I would set the drum track loud before clipping and then the guitars just above that. Think musical and timing. Then the vocals to the snare. It can all go up or down from there but if you are up or down any major amounts then make sure that is what you want and not what you think. If you are close EQ is a good tool. Use to taste but shouldn't need much If things are where they should be. Like spices...

Keep in mind this is just me talking and not really rules though. There no 123 for music making.

now that you mention vocals, i raise and lower my volume a lot when i sing. i would love not to have to play with the tracking and have things "where they should be" as you say. any tips on that?

used to use the dynamic mic and move it closer and further, but they do have that muffled tone. not clear like the condensers in the LS-10.

Hey Mag. I know an Egyptian girl who sings metal pretty well. She is also pretty connected. I'll have to look her up again. She moved to LA, but her little brother works with me.
