I really like this setup best though.

SVD stock (top one) would look real good on a .308 SAIGA with the longer brl.
I know but I'm still wanting something right about now.

discipline! go get a $15 spring pistol if you have to.

i completely broke down..

was suppose to have a saiga by now, but ordered the waki. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" />

should have gotten a plastic sword instead. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Know the feeling. I have some cash saved up and there is a guy that is offering to sell a 1895 SBL Marlin Guide Gun but have not heard back from him. It is a .45-70 gov't that has the things that I want to upgrade my standard Guide Gun to. If I got it, then I would sell my GG. If I don't hear soon I might be forced to get a BW Mistress even though I don't need it.
Those sbl's are sweet, I've got the winchester model 94 timber in 450 marlin, love the gun but the sbl has a laminate stock, stainless barrel and no magna porting. It is heavier the the timber and a bit longer but I like the larger hoop in the lever and the stainless
I have a Blued G, but if I keep it and don't get a SBL the larger lever, a Bear Proof ejector, full length tube, safety replacement screw, XS sight, and XS mount will be on the G before next deer season. Heck, I have an extra Aimpoint sitting in the parts box that would make that a great GG setup.

I didn't think I would like a traditional lever action with a rail on it and laminate stock etc.
However I got to handle and sbl today and compare it with the timber. Gotta say I like it.
The timber is a collectors item as it was only made for 2 years, but mine has been used moose hunting up in grizzly country and it is well cared for but used.
My timber works flawlessly with the hornady ammuntition, but the horandy leverultion ammo with the balistic tip jams in it every once in a while. I'll take the shorter range with perfect reliability anyday.
The marlin is designed to use the ballistic tips so it shouldn't be a problem.
Hornady's hot loaded 45/70 rounds are right there with 450 rounds in terms of velocity and energy when comparing similiar grained bullets, plus 45/70 can be found in more areas

Nice on the Timber. The 45-70 can be loaded pretty hot. A company by the name of Buffalo Bore makes some screamers.

When I sold my SOCOM I kept the stock, hg, and brl mt. That way if I ever decided to scout my standard I had the parts. Now, if you are not set on the shorter brl I do have those parts to make a scout type rifle. ( I can be persuaded with steel) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Taken pigs, yotes, wild dogs, a skunk, and armadillo. No deer yet.
