That's some amazing performance from those flashlights.

Makes mine look like a pen light.

These flashlights now just keep getting brighter and brighter everyday.

That's why I'm getting a handful of lights that take P60 dropins - the ability to upgrade when newer, better LEDs come out is a great feature.

As much fun as the lumens wars can be I really wish more manufacturers would leverage this new LED emitter efficiency by selling lights with "enough" output and some serious runtime. I find that for my uses whether it is EDC or carbine mounting, I rarely need more than 60-100 lumens. These emitters that are putting out multiple hundreds of lumens can put out just 80-100 lumens for several hours. That would be far more helpful to me.

Then just don't use the "high" mode. My Olight T10 has five brightness modes. Many lights now are even shipping with an infinitely variable brightness, where you can set a custom brightness level and the light will remember that brightness every time you turn it on.

I'd rather have the super bright setting in case I need it, than eliminate it altogether to give the illusion of better battery life. You can get both if you have multiple modes.

most do depending on mode matt... my nite core runs about mid way so i can crank out a couple more hours ... my fenix is rarely in turbo mode which boosts it up to 200 lumens but runs around 140ish i would say not in turbo , and also runs for a while. the 900 was just a cheap toy but has a second mode thats about 400ish lumens... but i only use that when my other lights just wont cut it...

Yeah the multi-mode lights can be nice for some uses but I really prefer lights with one mode for most of my uses. I have found over the years that single stage lights have MUCH more reliable switches and I also need to be absolutely sure how bright the light will be when I hit the switch.

Again, you should look up some of the infinitely adjustable lights that have come out recently. Some of them can be set up as basically a one brightness light, where you pick the brightness through a somewhat elaborate combination of presses. Once you pick that one brightness, though, it will remember it and you're good to go.

I'll have to check them out, but old habits die hard. They sound pretty slick. It is hard for me to get away from the simplicity and reliability of the standard single stage switches.

Many of those new lights with the 5 different modes do have some great runtimes on the low modes and have some real good brightness on high. Some of the quark lights are really impressive.
