SP, did you ever post pictures of the knife? I'm sure he's going to get a lot of use out of it. I have the parts to make kydex, but want to make a nice leather one for my waki. May have to get help from a friend of mines who does leather work for some of the local Hells Angels crew.

Here is the culmination of about 30+ hours of my life :

I really like how the stain turned out on the sheath. I used the Fieblings chocolate and light brown for the effect. All I can say is that he'd better like it or I'll tell him where to stick it.

hey everyone!

just put an order through for the zombie tarp hat, i was going to hold out but they jump up $10 after tomorrow, $30 isn't bad for something that's going to see a lot of use.

haha. Mine should be here tomorrow. I ordered one last Saturday (after I read the bf w&c thread )

leather is no harder than kydex. In fact, the tools to make a simple sheath are far cheaper. The time-consuming part is stitching, if done by hand.

The knife looks great! The plunge line and saber grind are both super clean. I normally don't like spine work, but that's simple and compliments the knife. And the sheath is just as amazing. Really like the contrasting colors. I'll have to try and make one for my waki. You works been looking real good lately, keep it up. I have a lot to learn.

I've had it with my 1x42 grinder. The belts wear down to quick, I'm hoping to upgrade to a 2x72 sometime in spring.

My 2"x48" is ok, but a 2"x72" would be much better.

Making a leather sheath is not as difficult as kydex, in my opinion, but it takes way longer. From cutting out the pieces, to gluing them, drilling, gluing, drilling, attaching snaps, to stitching...

All you really need to do it is a sharp knife, belt sander, drill (drill press, if handy), awl, and snap setter.

I'm probably going to go with a 2x72" Grizzly. The larger bottom wheel makes an excellent horizontal grinder (you need to make a table rig that switches between vertical and horizontal) that could hog massive steel for profiling and what not.

My friend always tells me how long leather work is, but my waki is worthy.

I had the opportunity to see the 2"x72" Grizzly in Rainwalker's shop. It's a sweet sander and looked very capable at what you are describing.

Leather is well worth the effort, in my opinion.

Ban has both the Grizzly and KMG in his shop, and the Grizzly doesn't really compare to the KMG, in terms of smoothness and quietness, but the Grizzly will get the job done at a much more affordable price, and the horizontal setup Ban has is a great bonus. His has been running for years without a single hick up, kinda like the AKs of grinders, haha.
