My mid life crisis...

2 years ago I was working in a medium sec jail (social Worker), wehad to cover at the only maximum security in the state... alot!

The medium sec was no prob, full of addicts, thieves, guys with mental illness who I have spent my whole career working with.

The Max was off the hook, Hard core young guys with nothing to lose, severe anto social guys, nasty murderers and just a bunch of jerks..

Not a lot of pathology to work with..wrecked guys who willmost likely always be wrecked

We had to go there a lot to help providecoverage and the guys abuse the heack out of you and it's a stressfulplace, I knew none of the CO's so some were less than helpful

I get called down to check on a guy in his cell and he "smeared" if you can guess what that means

the whole window, his trap- where they pass the food is filled, the 2 guys next to him did the same,

I'm sitting there trying to talk to him and getting nothing...feces in front of me, feces to the sides and I'm getting nowhere, I say the heck with this I'm out

It's my 40th birthday and I get this whole head trip on "So, this is it. This is where my life is at, this is my career..."!!!

I gave myself such a mess in my head I went to our employee assistance counselor and she laughed and said "Congrats on getting to your mid life crisis!"

Turned to be a good excercise in checking out where I was at in lifeand what I want to do...and how to manage a miserable, miserable expereince..
