Yeah, she is taking a lot more with manual focus and is trying to learn how to do her own iso and shutter speed as well, but just hasn't gotten there yet. Our problem is that we are always moving and the animals may be in bright light, dark or in heavy shadows on through brush. It seems like every picture needs a different setting. Oh if the camera was only as simple to operate as my old pentax. I don't see why they thought they needed to all all these fancy smancy features. Just have a full auto mode and one where you can manually focus, choose your own f stop and shutter speed (with a built in meter or course).

Nope, no pixel editing stuff. Just contrast/sharpening. Maybe lightening up or darking certain (parts) of pictues. Just visible changes the eye can EASILY detect. Nothing elaborate.

Yes, the problem of always moving, and dealing with constantly varying conditions is significant in nature photography. Nonetheless, with practice, she can overcome those difficulties.
It would be nice if cameras were simpler, but you can usually just set everything to manual and ingore the other stuff so it doesn;t get in the way. It's a little easier to do that with high-end cameras. The serious pro cameras don't have all those modes for landscapes, portraits, and so on.

One of her main drawbacks, I think, is her being to critical of her pictures. And the 2nd is her being scared to try the "confusing" aray of functions the camra will allow her to use. I have been trying to get her to "program" a couple of the functions so she can have manual control at a seconds notice. IF POSSIBLE, one setting for in moderately bright to bright sunshin and another for cloudy/shady times. That way she could just flip a switch, focus the camera and snap.

Sometimes technology, although fun and usable can bet to be TO technical and complicated.

I think being extremely critical of your own pictures can be good. I am super critical of my pictures.
The complication of technology can be quite the hassle. Especially since it changes so fast, and often has to be re-learned from scratch. For my job, trying to learn and keep up with everything – how to use my camera gear, my computers, RAW conversion software, photo editing software, digital asset management software, archiving software, design software, websites building software, websites for hosting pictures, websites for selling pictures, websites for blogs, etc. – it's endless, and a lot of labor. Keeping up with what is necessary to be a professional photographer these days is a challenge. A lot of the same applies, even for being an advanced amateur.

Yeah You're right. Glad SHE is the one that's really into taking pictures! I've got enough gray hair as it is.

Oh man, I was gonna go to the 2010 thread and do some updating. Then I saw my post count. 10 more to go for 4K! I wonder if I have the strength and stamana to go for the run? I'm gonna try and do it.

Hey guess what, I only got 9 to go now. But I see that I will probably have to talk to myself, again!
