Evo
Just a quick question on telephoto lenses
what magnification is a 200mm or 300mm lense on a DSLR

With a 35 mm system, a 200 mm lens is 4 power and a 300 mm lens is 6 power.

Thanks

I've had some issues with bears. The black ears in California and in the Western US, generally, can sometimes be aggressive.

I found one advantage of living in the apartment complex... free hot tub, maintained by someone else

Just got in from a nice soak under the stars, surrounded by snow, at 15 degrees. Sweet.

One of my best bear stories happened up on a moose hunt in Northern BC back in 1992.
It was early September and it was unseasonably hot. My youngest brother and I had been out hiking since sunup and in the early afternoon we found a nice sunny spot on a granite outcrop (most of the ground was wet but the rock was dry). We had lunch and decided to take a rest in the sun. We both fell asleep and when we woke up an hour or so latter there was FRESH bear scat on the trail not 15 feet away from us.
We were in the open and not using cover scents so I have to think that the bear knew we were there and just didn't care.

in high school i helped my next door neighbor put his hot tub in, so whenever his daughters(one year and two years behind me) used it i got to come over and use it too.

I haven't had any problems with bears even though I have had a lot of encounters. My hunting partner on the other hand is the original bad luck charlie. The same bear can look at me and walk away no problem and it will nash teeth and bluff charge him. The only thing I can think is he is terrified of bears. They pick up on it and screw with him because of it.

When my ex was hiking the PCT, a bear in Kearsarge Pass bit the foot of her sleeping bag (with her in it), and ran off into the night with her sleeping bag, and with her sock right off of her foot!

My ex – being the super-tough, awesome woman she is – ran after the bear and took her sleeping bag and sock back from the bear!

My one brother in law has terrible luck with bears.
He had to shoot a moma bear in self defense, then phoned the CO's so they could find the cubs.
He had on that he claims was stalking his trail, he had a tag and they were in season so he shot it.
Once while bow hunting he had to pepper spray one that was trying to put the run on him when he came back to his truck.

I am 44 and hunted, camped, hiked and 4x4 since being a kid and I haven't had those problems
