Well I love shotguns so I am biased. YThe thing i like about shotguns is depending on what you start out with as a base gun you can build and switch to many differnt uses and configurations and differnt types of ammo.

Hunting, trap, combat, home defense, slug gun and probably a few other things with the same gun. Switch barrells, ammo and maybe sights and you have a new gun with very little invested. Almost anybody can switch all those things by themselves, so no need for a gunsmith.

I just plain ole like guns though. Fortunately my wife is tolerant and like to shoot as well.

Pink, here is MY Combat Shotgun. It's a 20 guage mossberg 500c pump action that holds either 6 0r 7 counting the one in the chamber. It has a well it's supposed to be 18 inch barrel. Front gold color bead site and a slightly shortened butt stock with a 1/2 inch (total thickness counting the backer plate for the semi-soft)pad. I personally like the hard or solid rubber pad because it is not as thick and won't get caught up on clothing while you try and mount it to your shoulder in a panic situation. By now you are probably saying A 20ga? Well I use #4shot and it works for me. Have shot a couple combat matches with it and it is a LITTLE slower to knock down the steel Pepper poppers but I couldn't see a need to punish myself with a 12 ga when the 20 works for my purposes. Oh, I DO have a 12 to fall back on if I want or need it.

For me, I think AT LEAST one of the ultimate self defense rounds are Flechettes! MEAN AND WICKED!!!!! PK could possibly tell you more about them though if you could get him to talk about it. He was a Marine in Vietnam so he might have had some experience with them.

I love the tac 8 flight control rounds for closer work. After that tru-ball slugs seem to do the trick. But i am an afficionado. I have 3 good work guns. An 870, Mossy 500 and Mossy 930.

true true, the is just what I want, probably never really need, but that's just how it is with most things in life...

Then get you something you will have fun with. No matter what kind of shooting you will be doing with it.UNLESS you also intend to use it for UNsocial reasons if need be, then get something that can serve both purposes. Depending upon your environment, you may or may not need long range (let's just say 100 plus yards).

Hope I haven't confused you. Just trying to get you thinking about what you need it for before you buy it, unless it is purely for fun. Don't know anything about hunting opportunities where you are, but around here we got all the typical game. Deer, rabbit, squirrel quail...etc. So that could make a difference as well, if you intend to hunt with it.
