Randy - always keep your eyes open for a sale! The other day at WalMart the store was apparently selling some slow-moving items or discontinuing them. I picked up several of the two-person pouches of freeze-dried food for half-price in the Sporting Goods department.

I also found some plans on how to make your own Berky (is that right) filter setup using two plastic buckets and the filters.

I am very partial to the Mountain house freeze dried beef stroganoff. Pretty good for reconstituted dust.

Oh and I have been looking for a vacuum packer at the Flea markets. Could put the packaged stuff in one of those and MAYBE extend it's shelf life.

I have seen that as well. If you use the Gravidyn filters you would end up with the same thing. However, I think it is actually cheaper buying the unit all ready to go, versus piecing one together.

It was on the drum-runners page, Anyway, I pulled it up off my flash drive and he said that he has a total price of $122.00 for the whole thing, 2 5 gallon buckets with lids black berkey filter elements amd s spigot. And Yes, you can buy ready made many times for less. I'll have to check into them. I just didn't think that they would be all that good for my purposes. THAT's why I am picking your guys brains! And thanks for all the info!
