My Dad was in the Korean WAR as well, in the Army. Drove a Duce and a half with twin 50's mounted on it. Said one day he tried to shoot down a U.S. plane. When I asked why he said cause the &&*&^%%% was shooting at us! And them mumbled something about not being able to read a map. But he wa ok with me joining the AF. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

It broke my Granfather's heart when I joined the Marines. He didn't speak to me for a while.

All kidding aside, a plane opening up on you is HAIRY!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> We were out on a patrol when an OV-10 Bronco started doing a dive toward us. At first we thought he was going to provide some close-air support for us, but then he opened up with that 20mm gun. Trees started snapping and popping like toothpicks! Our radio man started screaming and cussing at him to cease fire. The pilot apologized to us, but said our CO had not radioed in any report of patrols in that area! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> Fortunately, nobody got hit, but it was CLOSE! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I'll tell you what, I would not want to be in the receiving end. By the time you realize what is going on it COULD be to late. And after having some Army pilots fly where they shouldn't in Korea, EVERYBODY needs to know how to read a map and relate it to what they see with their mod 1's! (eyes)
