ever thought about the solid state drives.
and i'm curious about how much data do you normally accumulate from a session of shooting. i know it can vary but i only snap a few pics where you may do hundreds.

o put my powerbooks through some rough stuff and they hung in there. even this last one is still ticking. literally ticking that is.... I seem to recall you spilled liquid on one or two of them. 2 wet and one did the locgic board thing... now one of wet ones started working again and that is all i had for a while. and a few windows machines i rarely rarely turn on.

Solid state drives seem interesting, but at $650 more, with the maximum size being 256 instead of 500, I'll pass.
It really does vary quite a bit, depending on what I'm shooting. I average about 40 per day. Sometimes just a few per day, other times a few hundred per day.
When I'm doing landscape photography, they tend to be just a few per day. With the new kids sports photography business that I'm about to start, I wouldn't be surprised if I photograph 50 kids in a day, and do 10 or 20 shots of each of them – so it could potentially be 500-1000.

Apple quoted me a price for replacing the logic board:
$1140 for parts $100 for labor $19 for shipping ~$100 tax
So, ~$1,360 just to replace the logic board. Then, I'd still need to spend about $325 for parts and labor to get a new 500 gig internal hard drive.
And that's getting well beyond what it's worth.

thats insane for them to even quote that. but we live in a society where we "throw it in the gutter and go get another". no more tv or microwave repair shops...

This last Mac laptop gave me more trouble than all of the other ones, combined. (I've been using Mac laptops since the Powerbook 150, in the early '90s, and using Mac desktops since the original Mac in '84.)
This laptop had 2 defective batteries, 2 defective powercables, and a defective screen (all replaced under warranty – but still time wasting). Then the hard drive and logic board crapped out in under 4 years.
I hope the next one isn't so problematic.

i wish the ipad had just a few changes. i'd buy it for the price at which apple forced at&t to provide service.

thats is a lot of problems for one laptop. i never have had that many problems from any product. i like to think i use my stuff a lot but im thinking you probably did day and night with your laptop and probably lugged it all over the place. that would most likely bring out a lot of flaws.
