If you don't sharpen your axe from time to time, you will soon be chopping with a hammer.

i was wondering over the weekend when we would see HD's S5 stripped and fully convexed.

HAHA! You would of had me if the story didn't include you climbing that small tree. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Hard to baton while you're on the tree also. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Is that a convex edge you already put on it? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Looks good! Yes, I sharpened it and it really does cut very well. In fact, I could actually do some light chopping with the S5, with its slightly blade heavy balance. It worked well for slashing sticker vines out of my way, too. I just love the edge this steel takes. Well now that does it...If you can baton a tree in half... oh I absolutely have to convex my S5's.... oh yeah!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> hehehehe Doc

That is hilarious! The sage coating is much more durable than the black coating. I put the S5 through the paces yesterday, but I forgot my camera.. The S5 batons like a champ! The polished spine of the SS4 is less destructive to your baton, but the extra length on the S5 makes it a little easier. Speaking of the SS4, I'm actually in the process of stripping the remaining coating off with scotch brite pads.. It's taking some elbow grease, but it's looking good..
When I'm done with that, it's going on a vacation to Georgia to get some Third World Grind Shop lovin'..
By the way, I absolutley love my Scrapper 5!

Inspired by the intense wood splitting done by El Clintor with his SS4, I decided to see what the S5 could do. I was stunned and amazed! I split this oak tree down the middle, after climbing to the top with the S5 in my teeth. Not an easy thing for a man of my age and weight. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Summer038.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Summer039.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Summer040.jpg) And unlike El Clintor's SS4, the coating on my Scrapper 5 was unscathed! ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Summer041.jpg) Well, maybe it was split by a thunderstorm, but it looks good to me! Brilliant!!! Dan

There was a major lighting storm while I was at Boy Scout camp. A one foot diameter tree was hit by lighting and shattered. What was left of the top part crushed the tent next to mine. Fortunately the guys who were using it left the day before and its next occupants arrived the day after. Some of the shards of wood that blew off of it were shaped like the blade of a Kriss dagger.

Yikes. Glad you made it through. That could've been nasty. I've had a few close encounters with lightning myself and they weren't pleasant.
