That's a surprise to me. I thought I read a test where the RTAK got slammed as too thin, too light, not too durable...more like a small machete if I remember the write up. Hope the RC 10 will be cool! RAT is a great company!

I have the RTAK and RTAK2 as well. I dont have a problem with the thinner blade so much as the terrible handles on the RTAK I had to do some serious reshaping to make them comfortable to me. The RTAK to me doesnt throw chips like the DFLE, the RTAT2 does better but its still not as nice to me as the DFLE.

Great review as always Vic,when it comes to this type of thread you are king !
I can't help but think though that if you can put an edge on like you do, why can't they come straight from the factory like that ? We don't all have power tools or the skills and it seems crazy that we should have to tinker with them after spending that much money !!!!!

Thanks loads for the chop-off HD. It was a pleasure to see your photos as usual. Which do you prefer at this point, your machete style blades or your choppers? I know you're into the big blades.

HD - you rock! Thanks for the pics and chop-off. I don't own either, but wish I had both Maybe some day Dan will do another run of DFs...

Hope the RC 10 will be cool! RAT is a great company! I don't care for the handle on the RTAK, but both models chop well for me. I have heard that some testers broke theirs, but so far mine have held up. The even thinner and lighter Condor Puerto Rican machete can out chop most "choppers".
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks loads for the chop-off HD. It was a pleasure to see your photos as usual. Which do you prefer at this point, your machete style blades or your choppers? I know you're into the big blades. For just chopping, the choppers are fine, especially my FFBM. But for clearing or trimming back my Wax Myrtles, I prefer a golok or machete. Sometimes, like on those rare occasions when I get to go down into the Altamaha, I prefer a shorter bush knife, like the DFLE. I am really just a knife nut or I wouldn't be on this or any other knife forum. A good machete and a Swiss Army Knife could do it all. I just look for some excuses to buy any mondo chopper knife that comes along. Now I have reached the pinnacle of madness, a Waki and a Killa Zilla! Yeah, like a 61 year old man needs those for his yard. I could do my best Clint Eastwood imitation from Grand Torino and tell trespassers "Get off my lawn" while brandishing a Waki!
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
