Jerry said this on Bladeforums...

"Please do not call the shop and ask Amy-0, Kendra, Kathy, Laura, Garth, or anyone else here to validate any claims being made on ebay. They have been flooded with calls and have no knowledge about this piece.

As for me, I have no comment at this time.

To those many HOGs who have held, fondled, and the few who own an actual Cubera prototype, I continue to salute you for being Men Of Honor.

Jerry also then reported that there will likely be more of them ending up on Ebay so buyer beware.

That's interesting and a bit cryptic; could the "Men Of Honor" and "Cubera" relate to the movie, perhaps they were considered for Navy divers? Then again, I've still never found out the story behind the "EH3" Mini Mojos and Mini Uncle Mojos. I own one of each and am as in the dark as the day I bought them.

Jerry's quote is interesting as he does not deny the knifes paternity.

He just says the shop staff have no info and he has no comment.

His other quotes are similarly and unhelpfuly ambiguous:

"For those of you bidding. Know this. There are more where this came from, and from what I understand, they too will be on EBAY.

Jerry"

This one indicates he is aware of the source. But again does not deny paternity.

"As a side note, the seller has NEVER posted on this forum or on the Busse Combat Forum.

Jerry"

This one again makes it sound like he might know who it is, as there is no way to know if someone has posted on the forums or not unless you know/suspect who they are and can ask them.

It's probably easy for him to find out who any given forum user is, but not an ebay user.

I'd say the Bossman is being marvelously clever in his language to make sure that he speaks the truth while not actually saying anything either way.

I'm sure he has his reasons and I am sure they are perfectly valid, but I do find the lack of flat out denial of paternity and the apparent knowledge of the source interesting.

From the wording above it might even be a secret bossman only release, who knows? (actually re-reading the bf thread thats less likely - there is the humbs down icon which I didnt really notice before)
That's a scenario that fits the wording, I'm not saying its likely, just saying that Jerry's statements leave a lot of room for maneuver.

I looked at the description again, and it indicates the knife dates from the '90s. The movie "Men Of Honor", starring Cuba Gooding Jr. was released in 2000, so the dates for that relationship don't match up.

One may as well speculate that it was made for one or more graduates of The University of Virginia and Jerry is referencing "The Honor Men" by James Hay Jr. The name "Battle Mistress" was derived from Walt Whitman's poem, "Pioneers! O Pioneers!" (Announcing the Trivia contest winner and the CORRECT answers.), so there's precedent for poetry-related Busse knife references.

Never seen the movie so I don't have any idea about the possible connection, but I would say that 1999 and 2000 are not far apart, only a day in fact, and movies can take a while to produce....

I could never justify paying $900 for a folding knife unless it was a 1-of a kind model. Even then I think I'd choke.

You all are a wealth of information. I sincerely appreciate all of the courtesy and hospitality

If Jerry did not put his folder into production, I'm sure he had good reasons. The Busse folder is interesting and I have no doubt that some are willing to pay a lot for one. For now, my top folders are my Benchmade Skirmish and ZT301. And I got both of those well under retail. The Busse is unique and of his own design. Maybe one day he will make more. For now, we have ZT, Benchmade, and a few swamp rat folders available for a whole lot less. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
