SR77 is a derivative of S7. S7 is used in the manufacture of jackhammer bits. It's lateral strength is second to none . . . not even INFI. But it doesn't hold an edge as well as SR101 or INFI.

SR101 is a derivative of 52100. 52100 is used in the manufacture of ball bearings. It's lateral strength isn't quite as good as SR77's or INFI's, but it will hold an edge longer than SR77 and some say INFI as well.

INFI has SR77's lateral strength, SR101's edge-holding capability, and better corrosion resistance than either one.

Applying some Break Free CLP has kept my SR-101 knives and others rust free. I have an OCD about knife maintenance lol.

I know it's not that tough to keep SR-101 rust free if you're diligent - I just like busting R-S's chops because he likes to point out how easily SR-101 rusts <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Either way INFI or SR-101 your getting a ridiculously amazing steel. I had a Swamp Rat M6 and I used it very hard.. well very hard dosent even describe it but it held up with no chips,dents,rolls or anything. Even my GF was amazed how much abuse it took lol.

I've definitely dented and chipped SR-101. I chipped the heck out of my Mini Mojo trying to baton it through a log with a masonry nail in it, and I rolled a couple of spots on my Waki, which are bad enough that a steel and strop didn't repair them, so I'll need to sharpen them out.

I've also rolled INFI doing nothing but chopping wood, and dented the crap out of SR-77 batoning twisted, gnarly logs.

None of these was major damage that couldn't be fixed with some sharpening, but they aren't as mystically impervious to damage as some would make them sound.

I didn't have to baton through car doors or chop concrete blocks to get edge damage on every type of "signature" Bussekin steel I own. In fact, the only ones I HAVEN'T damaged yet are 154CM and D2, and I think that's mainly because they are EDC type knives that don't get used for much chopping.
