Here's a link to the one I want from Spyderco and it is perfectly legal for them to ship it to folks cause it is made in Colorado (if not illegal in their state).

Spyderco Butterly

I have one of those and it is pretty cool but my least favorite of the ones I have.

I have the following bali's and they all have their meritts.
Benchmade 42 Weehawk blade
Benchmade 43 Bowie style blade (favorite for carry and use)
Benchmade Morpho small but easy carry and the wife likes playing with it
Spyderco Spyderfly nice but heavy
Spyderco Szabofly (like the one P showed)
Micro Tech Dragonfly (lightest large one)
Dalton large Deathwing (very large)
A couple cheaper ones.

Back when I was younger I got rid of a Pacific that had stag handles and miss it everyday. I hope one day that I can get one with buffalo horn and a brass handled one from the PI's to put with the collection. Of course that doesn't get close to some of the others I would like.

As to importing the blades from a foreign country, that ruling fell under the same restriction as the switchblades. Spyderco did get into some trouble and builds there blades here as does Benchmade and custom guys. The Bradley series is either made by Benchmade or Kershaw btw.

Here a few picks

I've got 5 now, all BM. Got 2 limited production ones, one is part of a 500 run the other a 1000 run. One is a Bowie, AT LEAST 3/16 thick 4 inch blade and the othe the wee hawk style. I've also got a smaller wee hawk style and the more routine blade shape and an ORIGINAL Pacific Cutlery model 68 (?) with the exposed pins that are just flared oversize and stick up a little over 1/16 inch. I've lost about 3/16- 1/2 inch blade on this one, using it to pry up broken concrete on a runway in either Idaho or Omaha many years ago. I have carried this one in and out of Tokyo and Honolulu airports at least 10 times in each airport (back in the 80's) YES, the 1980's! They are strong knives, about as close to a fixed blade as you can get in a folder. Seeing as how they close up on 2 hinge pins and a central stop (?) pin. Only reason I don't carry one anymore is I have becomed "enlightened" (that means gotten older and wanting to carry less weight that isn't part of my body)!!! Oh well, enough rambling, on with the show!

BTW, 2Lt, when did you change your avatar?

I've always wanted a nice Butterfly. Had some cheap ones as a kid. Maybe I'll ask for one for my birthday.

What P-Easy said. The Benchmades are very well made and hold the blade tension adjustments well. The BM blades are wicked sharp. You can get a BM trainer if you're worried about cutting yourself or use electrical tape on the blade edge. The Neosporin makes a big difference in how quickly your cuts heal. I was surprised.

They call it a safe handle and a bite handle for a good reason. I felt like I was re-living the Julia Child episode on Saturday Night Live at one point: "I seem to have cut the dickens out of my finger!". Remember that education is expensive no matter how you get it.

Cutting yourself with a bali doesn't happen that often if you are not doing ariel or flipping tricks. I was lucky enough to give up on those when I was younger. The reason I love the bali is because it is a true one handed blade and when locked up is as strong as most fixed blades.

between folders and my Scrap Yard fixed blades, I am content, and don't have a need for a bali blade.
