Sweet! Might have to pester HD for a choil mod!

This is such a great knife...Dan made us one awesome blade! I had it out last night and am just so happy with the size.

You have changed the look of the S5, KG. Yours looks like a different model altogether. That was a lot of work. It looks very good to me, and I can understand the reasons for your mods.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Very nice mods on both blades. I had/am considering doing some similar mods myself and this thread has been an education, thanks.

I do remember your enthusiastic support when chanting Bog Dog Dux.

original concept:

[Linked Image from i80.photobucket.com]

Actual modified RMD into Bog Dog "Dux":

[Linked Image from i80.photobucket.com]

The original concept idea was to have a full height, full convex blade.
The modified RMD has a Sabre grind with convex edge.... with rounded spine and choil (like you once requested ).

I like the actual knife more than the concept.

If you have a spare RMD....

This RMD mod is pretty much Exactly what I had suggested when I proposed the Bog Dog Dux concept - except for the skeletonized tang.

"BUT", I have a "workable" idea for a solution for "Getting" my skeletonized tang. And I have a contact with a guy who has a water-jet cutter who will cut tangs for me. But, he has a minimum charge that is a bit too high for my 3 knives I want to have skeletonized (RMD, HRLM, SAR5). He said he could probably cut about 6-10 knives depending on complexity of cuts for his minimum cut price - which comes out pretty reasonable per knife. I just don't have that many tangs I want skeletonized. But, there are costs and associated dis-assembly / re-assembly / re-touch up and fit mods that sort of come with these types of mods. Drilling out the old flare tubes shouldn't be too hard. But, I need to buy replacement tubing and make some flare dies, get access to a stronger vice, etc.

I don't know why it took me this long to convert my RMD into my Bog Dog II concept. -

The RMD is a CLASSIC. But, these mods are more what I want for my uses. It is less of a hunting knife IMO. But, more of a Bushcraft, Woodcraft, trail, hiking, camping, chore, task, etc. knife with these mods IMO.

Marvelous work KG. Just stunning. I want my S5 to look EXACTLY like that.

Thanks. Obviously, it "can" be done.

You are both right. While I love my mods to my S5. I can't say enough that the factory S5 really is a FINE design and for me to make such mods, I have to have a GREAT design to start with.

For anybody that hasn't purchased an S5 and are on the fence for some reason, the S5 is a SUPERB design and hard to beat.

I wish I could justify the price of the satin INFI version. But, for those of you who can, WHAT A SWEET KNIFE!!!

I will just have to be content with my satin SR-101.
