Always useful...
Small woodland hatchet with a 3 inch face, 14 inch curved handle with wide butt and lanyard hole. Res-C smooth grip covering 3/4 of the handle. See Gransfors Wildlife Hatchet profile. Ya beat me to it! I think a Scrap Yard Gransfors would be perfect. Something with some more heft than the crash axe, a wider head for splitting logs. Lets have a useable surface on the back of the head for pounding tent stakes or zombie skulls or whatever. It would have to be made of sr-77 of course. I also agree with many of the other ideas but I really dig the idea of a larger MUK. I would also like to see a Vex type knife with 154cm as posted earlier in the thread. The machete sounds great, too. My vote is for the wilderness/camp axe. The Dog Splitter?

Oooo, Oooo, The "Scrap Yard K-Nine ( Like the canine / dog tooth (The Killer 9"). A Scrap Yard double edged fighter about 1.4" wide, .33 thick & flat groung on both edges down to the spear point on the 9" blade. SR77 with a Res-C handle of course. Perhaps with a molded guard like the Regulator has.

How about a Busse Roach Belly ?
Same handle as SAR5 with the same handle to blade transition also. The blade then has a nice sweep up to a tip that's level with the top part of the handle giving it plenty of belly. The spine is straight. The blade would be 5" long and made from 3/16" INFI with a full convex grind and satin finish. This would be one of the greatest hunting knives ever to come out of the Busse shop !!!!

How about a Grohmann style canadian belt knife? Either a satin finished sr101 or 154cm blade. No blade coating for food prep. Mudder grip of course.
Wow, this would my new "never go hunting without it" hunting knife! I'll take two!

I'm gonna add another "vote" for a machete - something I have never seen from Busse/SR/SY.
This would be a real user machete and it has to be SY, the last bastion of Res-C.
15-18" blade (not longer for closer grown veg) 3/16" thickness or whatever it takes to be light but still strong. 5" old-fashioned SR style Res-C handle. Not a mudder.
blade profile like Condor El Salvador, or possibly Jungle Sabre.
But I also like a couple other suggestions - Bolo, and that size/ utility.
I need a good brush clearing blade, NOT a heavy chopper (Bussekin done a ton of those already).
Just my 0.02 fwiw
oh yeah, I need it before winter

Ideas for a new blade:
1. I would like to see a skinning knife. But not the drop point or straight spine type, those are done everywhere. I am thinking more of an upswept trailing edge style.
Perhaps in the fashion of the old “green river” knives popular years ago. High upsweep with a fairly wide belly…. Not so wide as to make it unwieldy. Maybe half again as wide as at the start of the edge. I don’t think it should have a clipped or dropped point like the Muk. Simple handle design, maybe standard res or mudder (maybe even micarta) for good grip while working and large enough to fill the hand; for me at least an inch or so larger than the S5. The sweep shouldn’t be so steep as to render the knife inefficient at, or useless for slicing. It should not come to a super sharp point but similar to the green river “buffalo hunter” shape. It should be of satin finish, preferably with a flat grind. I will leave the steel choice to the experts. While I know a little about steel, I cannot begin to guess the best for this application. Length should be 7-9” I think. Width at handle 1.25 – 1.5” or there abouts.
2. Another thought for a different style skinning knife. A blade that is again an upswept trailing edge but with more finesse than the “green river” style. Start with a modest elongated tear shaped handle, rounded at the butt and narrowing toward the edge. Handle material would probably look better smooth that mudder style…or perhaps even micarta, or an exotic wood Once the metal passes the handle material, the metal flairs outwardly an inch – inch and a half in a largish radius curve suitable for the thumb and forefinger, in order to move the hand closer to the blade for finer work. The edge should sweep up sharply and come to a finer point, as if the edge and spine followed two different radii and intersected a point of cusp. From the flair outs width at about 1.25 – 1.5” to zero at the point of cusp. Length should be 4”... no more than 5” designed as to be an aesthetically pleasing blade shape… i.e. the makers choice.
Again, it should be of satin finish, preferably with a flat grind. I will leave the steel choice to the experts.
3. Last but not least, perhaps a small skinning or caping knife. Slight upsweep trailing edge, or maybe a slight drop point. 1.5 – 2” long… Maybe 1/2” wide. It could be a solid steel handle or maybe smooth res-c, for grip, at least 4-5” long.. For utilitarian sake, a narrow extension from the handle to the blade beginning to offer a greater reach to the work area. An option here could be to make the entire knife a fat stubby like a Scandinavian puuko. Scand grind, perhaps. Same blade style and length but with no extension and a fat res handle…
Again, it should be of satin finish, preferably with a flat grind. I will leave the steel choice to the experts.
All of these blades should be thin enough for the type of work they are being designed for.. maybe 1/16”- 1/8” or so for the shorty.. 1/8” – 3/16” for the others…?....
I realize that the more zealous dawgs won’t be able to baton these things through telephone poles, or convex them into spheres… but they should draw another clientele component … more hunters and guides. Yes I know there already many of us here, but these ideas could be another depth of service that might be interesting…
Well… that’s my 3¢…

Could pull an in your face move to the other teams and just re-release the SS4 in Sr101.
That would spank them in the ever popular price to performance ratio!

I like my 18" Machawk, 4" tall, thick, sharp, square ended blade, with a small spike on opposite end for puncture. Wish I could explain what I mean better.

Jerry posted the contest below and I have talked to a few of "my girls" at the Busse shop and they are thinking about doing a Scrap Yard Knife for the contest. If you have any ideas let me know so that I can pass them on!
We divided our production team into 4 different teams. These teams will each have 2 leaders. They will be making a design of their choosing and these designs will be posted as a special offer. The team that has the biggest hit will win a valuable prize!!!! If a group uses your suggestion, you will receive a free knife from that offer!!!!! These can be modified versions of past designs or entirely new ideas!!!! The first one to suggest the idea that inspires the team's design will be the winner. . . . There are 4 teams and therefore, 4 chances at winning. If a team uses a design that has not been suggested, then NO prize will be awarded. Each team will decide whose post inspired them the most and will pick their own design winner.
All 4 lines of Busse Kin Blades Are Qualified for this competition. Here are the 4 lines . . . .
Busse Combat Busse Custom Shop Swamp Rat Scrap Yard
NO DRAWINGS or PhotoShop Pics!!!! . . . They will be deleted!!!!. . . Written descriptions only!!!!!
They're gonna need your help, so tell 'em what you want and encourage them to bring it!!!!
Good luck to all who participate. . . .
Jerry
Here are the Team Names and their respective leaders. . . .
Super Amy & Little Boy Wonder. . . . Amy-0 and Beef
Kong & The Tooga Tot . . . . Lora and Josh
Captain Cabo & The Hill Stick Kid . . . . Garth and Ron
Under The Radar . . . . Kendra and Bubble (No one over 5' tall allowed!) Renee: These Dogs have some amazing ideas and they continue to provide more. Dont you think the Under The Radar Ladies will be able to find something to beat those other teams Dan
