The Mountain Cur !

I'd like to see a wide bladed knife that could be used for a wide variety of tasks around a campsite. It would have a 5" long satin finished blade( satin because one use would be for food prep)with a handle around 4 1/2" long shaped very similar to the Ratmandu but with thicker Micarta slabs.
The blade would be a drop point design that is about 2" wide at it's widest point and similar in shape to a Nessmuk pattern. The steel would be 3/16" SR101 or INFI so it has great edge retention.
With it's wide, thin blade it would excel at slicing food stuff around camp but still plenty tough for chopping and shaping wood.
The edge would be convexed for slicing ability and toughness. There would be no choil with the blade merging flawlessly into the handle in a similar way to the SAR 5.
This knife would evoke images of grizzled mountain men of days gone by with their muzzle loaders over the shoulders and their knives hanging at their hips, the kind of men who lived in the mountains because it was their way of life and not a break from their 9 to 5 jobs!
I can see this knife stuck in a stump with flames from a camp fire reflecting off the shiny steel as people sip Bourbon and tell each other of their past outdoor adventures under a blanket of stars !

This knife will prove to all the naysayer's that the Busse/kin company doesn't just make sharpened prybars, that they also make real working blades for those that spend a lot of time actually out there using them for real outdoor tasks !!!

Thanks for the chance !!!

Still sounds good to me !

It's a HI kukri called the tamang by Vim. A month or so I posted a mini-test with my battle rat...there are a couple threads on them on BF in the HI section too...

I would like to see a scrap yard knife that is 5 inches long, 1/4 inches wide, with a scimitar (blade that curves up) shaped blade that is strictly for self-defense. It would have the mudder grip handle with a single guard between the blade and the hilt.

I request/vote for a little one piece necker blade less than 3" and a heavy curvy handle (finger choil and a place to pinch with my thunb on the back or finger hole/s) for a good grip. As for steel, whatever will give the best price to performance ratio.

Sittin here sippin a rum and coke and finished reading the May issue of Tactical Knives with an article about the classic Puma White Hunter. I have had the pleasure of owning one for about twenty years. I can remember well the anticipation and pleasure of useing it on my first Elk. It performed well and did not let me down during the skinning and quartering for packing out. I'm thinking that Dan could come out with his own version of a Scrapyard White Hunter that would be unique and become a new classic with hunters and wildernes enthusiasts. I'm thinkin 154 CM, .200 to .250 thick. At least 5 in., no more than 6 in. Sharpen the "axe like" grind on the spine. Give it a little more of a penetrator tip.An ever so slightly larger area on the spine for batoning. Not sure if I would miss the serrations. Mudder handle. Other than that, kind of keep the classic profile. Not sure if this style has been allready been brought up.I would buy one or two. How about you?
Cheers.
