I think there must be an announcement soon or one of the big dogs would have put us out of our misery before now eh ?

I didn't expect it of the yard to keep everyone hanging this long. I'm a bit disappointed with the whole affair to be completely honest. I just expected more. I mean a simple "update" will take all of 10 seconds or maybe 20 if you type slow Oh well.....

It will be worth the wait if my design is the one chosen, that's what I keep reminding myself of anyway !

"The Mountain Cur !

I'd like to see a wide bladed knife that could be used for a wide variety of tasks around a campsite. It would have a 5" long satin finished blade( satin because one use would be for food prep)with a handle around 4 1/2" long shaped very similar to the Ratmandu but with thicker Micarta slabs.
The blade would be a drop point design that is about 2" wide at it's widest point and similar in shape to a Nessmuk pattern. The steel would be 3/16" SR101 or INFI so it has great edge retention.
With it's wide, thin blade it would excel at slicing food stuff around camp but still plenty tough for chopping and shaping wood.
The edge would be convexed for slicing ability and toughness. There would be no choil with the blade merging flawlessly into the handle in a similar way to the SAR 5.
This knife would evoke images of grizzled mountain men of days gone by with their muzzle loaders over the shoulders and their knives hanging at their hips, the kind of men who lived in the mountains because it was their way of life and not a break from their 9 to 5 jobs!
I can see this knife stuck in a stump with flames from a camp fire reflecting off the shiny steel as people sip Bourbon and tell each other of their past outdoor adventures under a blanket of stars !

This knife will prove to all the naysayer's that the Busse/kin company doesn't just make sharpened prybars, that they also make real working blades for those that spend a lot of time actually out there using them for real outdoor tasks !!! "

Heck I'd even change the name to the ' Dan Buster !'.

For what it's worth, I honestly believe that Dan or Renee would respond if they could.

I seriously think that they have picked my design but knowing what a demand for it there will be they are making sure they have enough steel and staff at the ready !

Yeah maybe you are right, BUT the responsibility surely has to lie with somebody up the line

Lol Pitman, maybe that is the case

Here are the knives that I would like to see from the Scrap Yard in the future. I imagine that other people may have posted similar ideas, but that's okay I just want to put in my 2c worth and maybe see some of these knives come to fruition.

A Scrap Yark double-edged dagger. SR-77 for toughness. Seven inch double flat ground blade, 1/4" thick, or saber ground 3/16" would be okay too. Good sized round choils on both sides. Contoured Res-C handle with protruding butt for hammerfist type strikes (this is a fighting knife). Reasonable finger guards, but not too big to inhibit a thumb up forward grip. Could also be offered with Scizzy-style cord wrap.

7.5" skeletonized necker, 3.25" blade, 3/16" thick. SR-101 for edge retention and sharpness. 3 deep contours on the handle to secure the first three fingers and a tapered butt for the pinkie--a handle that grips you back and makes you feel like nothing can get this knife out of your hand. Jimping on the spine is a must for neckers in my opinion. Full flat ground drop point blade with small choil.

Scrap Yard Kukri. SR-77 for toughness. 13" blade of 5/16" stock--thick enough so you know its not going to break and full flat ground to cut down on weight. Nice big round choil so you can choke up. Classic Res-c handle will be perfect for this one.

Can't wait to see the results of this contest and it is cool to hear the voice of the people. Right on!
