Dang it. I missed this. Sorry Dogs.

So far it seems that the original Dog logo and the "Long Live the Brotherhood of the Yard" slogan are preferred across the board.

I prefer my patches like my blades. Less bark, more bite.

Great job on the logo Recon1, I think that is an excellent attempt. I really dig the pentagon.

As a Fallout fan, I remember the Brotherhood of Steel. They were a group formed to try and bring civilization back into control after the chaos of a nuclear war. I believe it is the Brotherhood of this nation that has kept it blessed for so long, I pray we never lose that spirit.

Here's an idea, keep in mind that it's workable:

I REALLY like "Long Live the Brotherhood of the Yard". This forum and its members are like no other - really a Brotherhood! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

That sounds good to me, too. This is a special place to me. It has a different feel than all the other forums I post on. It is a brotherhood.

I agree, this IS a kind of setting in front of the fireplace sort of place, where everyone is friendly and wants to help. And although we are all of varied backgrounds and countries of origins and races we are all the same, we are members of the humane race and we just let all that other stuff get in the way. I took this last sentence from another post of mine. SY forums DO have a special FRIENDLY feel to them, like no other place I visit. Thanks Dan and all the moderators for setting the standard so high and making this such a special place.

Just got home from work and I'm 3 Shiner Bocks into a six pack...
How do you like those? Kroger had them on sale today for $6.99/six pack. However, when we were over at Liquor Outlet last week I passed on buying a case of Spaten Oktoberfestbier and have been wishing I hadn't. So, I bought a 6-pack of Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest instead -- it's not the same but it was there and so was I, so that's what I went with. beeradvocate.com seems to rate the Shiner Bock as slightly better than the Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest, but the types are different enough that since I wanted a Märtzen, a bock probably wouldn't satisfy.

The Spaten ranks better than either, and I may buy some next week when I head back over to Louisville; I'll definitely be taking my two growlers to refill from whatever they're featuring on-tap. I'll also be looking for Van Winkle bourbon, which I recall seeing there, and my Mom wants a case or so of pumpkin ale if it's in.

You're making my mouth water. I really like the Shiner. It's pretty much all we drink here in Texas. It's a German style beer company and they've got a few different styles out now. I would like them to come out with an Oktoberfest, I know it would be excellent. I personally don't pay much attention to those rankings, I just drink what I like. I'm also not too picky in that regard. You won't be disappointed.

Long live the yard!

Sorry I missed out on the Chat. I think it is very cool for Dan to stop by from time to time and have a little chat thread. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

My wife's aunt passed away last week.

Friday was the visitation and Saturday was funeral and family gathering. So, I missed out.

Oh well. Some cool ideas.

I am like Jeff. And why I haven't really put forth much effort in the knife design competitions. ... That and the fact that by the time I saw there was a competition here and on the Swamp Forum, the Busse forum had been going strong for a LONG time and already posted a few hundred ideas.

Anyway, I express my ideas WAY better in drawing (photo-shop) than via verbal description. I have mentioned before that a LARGE part of many ideas gets lost in translation.

I have mentioned in the past, but I don't understand why there is such issue with ideas and designs being posted on these forums in picture form. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

-------------

I had previously typed:

I seriously disagree with Jerry's view on this. I can appreciate that some industry's including the knife industry have gotten to where design is everything to their "Branding". But, customers help design products ALL the time.
Customer input has driven production of goods FOREVER!!! And it should!

But, if limited to only being able to provide design input via written or verbal suggestions, there is WAY TOO MUCH left open for interpretation. It is often just way too hard to describe certain details. Knife design is such that "LITTLE" details and nuances of the designs are often a significant part of the design that can be too hard to describe in writing or verbally - unless making a simple obvious change such as No thumb ramp or similarly simple. But, that is not often the case.

I have a significant history in sales and management and an appreciation for ACCURATE and CLEAR communication.

Unfortunately, with something like knife design, I feel actual in hand proto-types are FAR and AWAY the best option. But, that isn't very realistic or practical for most of us. So, Second best is EASILY pictures, drawings and/or photo-shoping.

As long as it takes me to photo-shop a concept, I can often put together a phot-shop picture as fast or faster than typing out a detailed description.

And "pictures" are still much more "CLEAR", more accurate and easier to understand method for conveying ideas.

There is just too much room for mis-interpretation in written or verbal descriptions of many things.

Without such clarity, things like the following can (and "DO" OFTEN) happen:

Same concept, different industry application:

...... anyway... I would think my FULL disclaimer giving FULL rights and entitlements to design would be sufficient... But,.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

If I post it online it is fair game and free to use.
I hope Dan won't mind that I changed the Dog just a bit. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
