Nice sheaths guys! I saw a post by Dan stating that there would be some sort of sheath offering from the Yard for the S5 LE. Something about for 1st position carry I think. Is that belt carry?
So far I like the sheaths made from two pieces of plastic riveted on both sides, like the S5 sheath Eric shows on the Mashed Cat site. I wonder why most of the sheaths I see in this thread are folded Kydex? It would seem the additional areas for screws and rivets might come in handy. The folded sheaths also look like they would be a little thicker. It might be a little harder to achieve a tight blade fit in a folded sheath too, although I read opinions differ concerning whether pressure on the blade or hilt should hold the knife in the sheath. I'm still not sure which would be better for inside the pants carry but until I start using the knife I want know whether or not it will be better for me to wear it inside or outside.
I don't plan to carry my Glock 9x19 with my knife as seen above. I am more likely to need a place to attach a sharpening stone for my scythe. Scythe blades need to be constantly sharpened.

Welcome to the yard Mick, happy to hear you picked the Scrapper 5 LE. It will be a great knife for you.
I have no first hand experience with the sheath makers you mention, but from picture I've seen, you really can't go wrong with either of them.

Welcome to the yard Mick. I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents on the sheaths . . . "Sandwich" style kydex are nice, but I wouldn't say they are any slimmer than a folded "taco" style kydex, nor would I say that one is tighter than the other. I have 3 folded kydex that lock up tight. There may be better mounting options with more rivets but as long as it supports a tek-lok, you should be okay. I would think that the S5 might be a little big for inside the pants carry but each person wears theirs differently. I do not own a mashed cat or okuden but many people pair them with their Scarpyard blades. I have BuyBrown and Rainwalker and am very pleased with both. I wouldn't count on an offering directly from Scrapyard and for the S5LE, it might be worth it to pay for a custom one. Good luck whatever you choose.

I'd place an order with Mashed Cat, since he offers prompt delivery.
I've been waiting for Rainwalker to get to my order for months.
It's well worth the wait

That’s why I’m still in the Rainwalker queue. But Mick was wanting a sheath soon. Jeff’s a great guy. Jeff makes great sheaths. What Jeff does not do is take an order today and ship the sheath tomorrow. If you need a scabbard right quick like, Rainwalker is not the place to shop.

If one is in search of something simple, but functional, id say go with someone like David or,as some others have mentioned MashedCat. ***not to say that jeff doesnt make a simple, functional sheath or that Davids or anyone elses for that matter are of any less quality*** i dont mean to rub anyone the wrong way, i have sheath from both jeff and David and they are both great!! stand up guys too! Im doing some research on getting a custom leather pant for my S5LE or CG...whatever i decide to carry. wait and see!

While we are on the topic of sheaths, can any one recommend a maker who does not require the knife be sent in. I know this may sound silly if I want a custom kydex, but I carry my blade everyday and don't want to part with it. I want a kydex with a tech lock for horizontal carry for a DCDM.
Thanks,
JT

Hi JT, Some of the sheath makers have a collection of knives that they can make your sheath from. I know Mashed Cat can make a sheath for the S5 LE, because I just got a note from Eric saying they can: http://www.mashedcat.com/index.htmlIf you scroll down on the page above you will find a picture of a S5 and one of Eric's sheaths. I am fairly sure other sheath makers can do this too. Rainwalker has been used by a large number of people here. Several other manufacturers are popular too. I have been to several other manufacturer pages but so far Masshed Cat is the only one I have found who has a specific picture of the sheath I need. Eric is also the only one who has answered an email confirming that he can make a sheath like I need. Here is hoping others will give us the names of other manufacturers they know could produce a sheath for our new Scrap Yards. Cutting up, Mick

Thanks guys,
I think I will look into mashed cat. From what I can tell, they all make a solid product. For me, it just comes down to how long I am willing to wait and how much I want to pay. Thanks for the input.

I put my order in with Mashed Cat. Eric responded right away to my note again. Eric obviously takes his customer service personally and that was the value added I was looking for.
From the talk in other threads it looks like knives are getting ready to ship soon. I wanted the best chance to have my sheath here when the knife arrives because it will go into use immediately. I just found Scrap Yard so my order for the S5 LE is way down the list but someone posted that they tend to ship all close together.
waiting patiently,
Mick
