I'm not sure if 2 extra inches would make it that much better than the DF/DFLE. Give it a 14"-16" blade and now were talking... MEGA CHOPPER <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />.
I like the idea of a bigger DF so I voted for a 12" 5/16" thick with regular handle and full flat grind. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm sorry I didn't mention it earlier KnifeGuy, but I was trying to keep things on the topic of chopping blades.
I already have a 5' telescoping pole saw with a 14" blade (it'll get 7" branches up to 15' in the air) .
I guess I'm specifically trying to find the best chopping blade for the job at hand, if I'm not in a hurry it's nice to have some variety, right? Given the stated impressions of a good thick machete, I'm all in on this "Mutt-chete" people keep mentioning. If it's the ultimate chopper, I don't see a downside.

Oh, and the type of trails I clear are horse trails, thus all the chopping above my head. I usually try to do a hundred yards or so at a time. To do all the trails in one go would take four or five solid days, so it's usually an afternoon project if I ever get around to it. Needless to say there is lots of opportunity for chopping experimentation at the same time.

I would think a pole saw and a well sharpened machete would be the best combo option for those types of trails. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> Lopping shears (or anvil shears for hard dead wood) might be a worthy consideration. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> I would likely take all 3. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> .

Great stuff knife guy!
Ok, how about a modified huge chopper in the vein of the Condor Golok. I wonder if the SR77 would be too brittle in that thin of a blade configuration of that length. Boy, that would be a sweet chopper though...and more practical as well IMHO.

mutt-chete YES ! It would be unique - as in, there ain't nothing like it from Busse-kin out there.
I like my SR Battlerat, but I have no need for another heavy bladed chopper knife.
What I would like to see: 15-18" blade. thin, tough blade. ResC handle (smooth, not mudder).
ScrapYard is the last bastion of Res-C, so if it does not happen here, I'll have to buy a Condor <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

*need for disclaimer due to some people thinking just cause its got a pic , or a catchy name doesnt mean its every every going to be made.... but we can dream right!

I think 3/16" (.1875") would be a good thickness for a Mutt-chete. Though that might tip the scales a little too far on the heavy side for some people. 5/32" (.15625") is the thinnest I'd want to go.
