I don't own the SOD but I have the dogfather. I love it. I used a 7.5" bowie for years camping but the extra length and weight of the df makes it a joy to use. If you can live with the extra size on your hip you will enjoy letting the weight of the knife do much of the work for you.

Go for it. I have SOD and DDF. I am hoping that the doct's can get me squared away soon and I can get out and do some serious chopping. It will wear me out I am sure, but it will be so enjoyable!

I agree, Bruce. Real choppers are big blades, over 9" IMO. Sure a 7" blade can chop, but not like a 10" blade. The DF isn't really all that heavy to carry around.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

For my money, owning a Dog Father means never having to apologize for not owning a Battle Mistress. So does that mean I should sell my DDF when the bushwhacker mistress comes out? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

The only place I've really looked was bladeforums. Very early on, I had tried to bid on a few on fleabay, but I hate the sniping and sleazy sellers and bidders so much that I gave up on the bay. Bladeforums has a good reputation system, and most people I've bought from there are people I've held conversations with on the forums. That makes me feel a lot safer buying something.

Cost vs. function, I'd go with the DF.

Besides, the Res-C handle works better on a chopper just for its ability to absorb the shock better.
