"Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten". I have to agree with that, as I'm sure Dan and Jerry do as well.

Without a doubt. But other manufacturers put out quality products, too. And they haven't built businesses that even remotely resemble the Bussekin operation. Believe me, although quality is a key component of the Busse success story, there's much more to it than that.

Devotion.

"Brilliance" by Jerry (and Dan), "devotion" from the Hogs (and dogs to a certain degree).

I've seen some pretty loyal following of other companies from their customers, but Busse zealots are devout as they worship at the alter of INFI.

This is a whole new level of "loyal following".

I would be interested to know where Bruce gets the idea from that military sales mean that civilian sales are not the main market....

Aside from a few mentions here and there and two smallish contracts I do know of I am unaware of any large procurement contracts needed for that sort of situation.

I suspect most military orders come in through the small procurement government process .... larger contracts such as SOG's SEAL knife contract usually involve trials and a publicly disclosed contract...and there are none to the best of my knowledge which Busse have ... or have bidded for ...

I personally think the civilian/private military sales by individuals make up the majority of the business...but am willing to be educated on this ...

Jerry has claimed that their main market is military sales, but that doesn't mean I buy that statement at face value. He claims the newer, crappier Bama Clay texture is to reduce reflectivity for military contracts. While I have no doubt his intention in changing the finish was to reduce reflectivity, I find it absolutely laughable to believe that there is some big military order of Bama Clay knives out there somewhere, strapped to a bunch of soldiers' packs. It's just not something that a military contractor would do - buying a bunch of pretty knives and requesting them in this weird sandpaper textured finish.

I think of Jerry's statements very much like I would think of the campfire stories of my crazy uncle - full of hyperbole and imagination, and not to be taken at face value for anything more than a laugh and some fun.
