I wouldn't be surprised to see the bushwacker listed for sale in less than two weeks. The double cut SAR8 will go up in the company store tonight, so I don't expect the announcement until after they are sold out - but later this week wouldn't shock me at all.

I expect the DC/Black micarta to be the last that we will see of the SAR8s at the BCS.

Yep, I think you're right vox. A combat grade sar8 is a no brainer in my eyes, but Jerry does things his way and there's not much you can do about it. I am not a fan of paying the "satin tax" to get a shiny blade, but many of his customers do it gladly, so I'm just stuck waiting to see if he'll release stuff I like in CG.

Heck, I'd take a SAR-8 even in arctic white <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> or plain old black.
B.C. is cool and all, but the SAR8 looks to be an awesome knife in the woods, and if I could snag one at CG prices I'd take it in any color I could get.
I wouldn't turn down a bama clay version, though... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

What are the expert's thoughts on this knife for a winter camp knife? I need a knife to abuse/use chopping digging and splitting firewood. I don't want to carry more weight than is necessary. The 5 and 6 inch blades that I have carried in the past are not long enough to efficiently get to dry wood in larger lumber during wet times.
Thoughts??

I would suggest the SOD it's a great all around camp knife.

Opinions on which knife - the SAR 8 or the Bushwhacker?
I think both would be pretty phenomenal camp blades - not too heavy to carry and plenty long for batoning.

Tough choice and both would be good, but I think the Bushwhacker is better for chopping and splitting firewood. I'd jump all over that SAR-8 but its just too expensive for me, but if they had a CG I'd get one.

I am so happy with the M9, I really don't care that much about the Bushwhacker, unless it has a 12" blade or something. Darn you Vic! Makes me wish I got an M9! I think your continuous praise of the Chopweiler led me to buy one off the secondary market. I even contemplated selling off my DFLE to put funds toward an M9, but since so many of us at the Yard waited so long for the DFLE, I just couldn't! Now, if a M9 CG were released, I think I could part with my DFCG to fund some of that! As for this Bushwacker, it looks nice, but if I were to dish out as much dough as this will probably cost, I want the full thickness (at least .25") Battle Mistress experience! Oh, and I saw that Rowen RAT RC10. That one's tempting, too! So many choices and so little funds!

SAR-8 is a bit out of my price range. I hope that CG bushwhackers are a bit more affordable.
