I’ve been playing with the free Google site for an hour or so, and I’m not liking it. I’m used to using HTML, and they’re more geared for people who don’t use it. If you try importing the HTML, it removes some of the formatting and makes it look different. I’m used to the Geocities file manager and HTML editor.

Use dyndns to register your domain name, and point the DNS resolution to your free google site. Ok…I’ve never done this before, so I’m a bit overwhelmed. I can do HTML, but that’s about it. If I did that, would it show my custom domain name in the address bar, or redirect and show the free Google site? Because I want it to say my custom domain name in the address bar. If it will only show my custom domain name in the address bar, that sounds like it might work, assuming I don’t go over the filespace / traffic limit. I looked at the dyndns page, and I’m not sure what option I would use. Would it just be the one that says domain registration? I think so, but I wanted to make sure. I saw other options, like dynamic dns, custom dns, etc. Oh man - you lost me about five miles back!

would it show my custom domain name in the address bar, or redirect and show the free Google site? It would redirect and show the google address in the bar. Sounds like with your usage that you just need the most basic hosting package available. 19Mb of storage and the amount of page views you have are both easily covered in the most basic hosting you can find out there. This may be a little outside your comfort zone, but you could even easily host that on your regular adsl/cable (not dial-up) Internet connection if you had a web server that was up permanently and bought a domain name at DynDNS and pointed it at your IP address. In terms of hardware you really don't need a lot, $100-150 could get you quite far. You would however need some knowledge of how web servers work

Don't want my connection to get shut down.
